State parks and historical sites in town

The northern tip of town is part of the hundreds of acres of forest that comprise Mount Holyoke Range and Skinner State Parks. It's no wonder there is so much green space around the area -- some impactful creatures used to roam the forests and fields. The first dinosaur footprints discovered in North America were spotted by the son of a South Hadley farmer in 1802. You can also visit the remains of America's first navigable canal at Canal Park. The Village Commons Shopping Mall, just off Mount Holyoke's campus, has several restaurants and South Hadley's Tower Theatres. Try Johnny's Bar & Grille, a local staple that offers classic pub food in a relaxing atmosphere. The restaurant's colorful exterior welcomes residents in, and the burgers, fries and salads help them stick around. You can also head to Food 101 for a lesson in fine dining; sample Pommes Frites, wild mushroom ravioli, or spaghetti carbonara.

Commuters have access to major roadways
