The neighborhood is flat, with sidewalk-lined suburban streets. Many of the backyards have above-ground pools, and attached garages are common. Blakewood is one of South Milwaukee's higher-priced neighborhoods. A mix of brick and wood-exterior ranch-style homes from the 1970s are priced from $250,000 to $370,000. Less than 2 miles west of the neighborhood, Abendschein Community Park has a skate park, playgrounds and a disc golf course. Hikers and cyclists can use the park to access Oak Leaf Trail, a paved pathway that winds all the way to Milwaukee. About 3 miles northeast of the neighborhood, Grant Park has playgrounds, soccer fields, an 18-hole golf course and a beach overlooking Lake Michigan.
