Very few places in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area remain a well-kept secret. Sunshine Ranches is one of these rare places, an equestrian wonderland where residents enjoy privacy, quiet and beautiful natural surroundings. Rolling hills, towering palm trees, swaying sawgrass and neighbors traveling around by horseback are a part of everyday life in this suburban retreat. You’ll find ranch-style homes, gated communities made up of Mediterranean-style single-family homes and villas, modern contemporary estates, and sprawling Italianate-style mansions sitting on lots with plenty of acreage. Many of these larger homes include barns and stables to keep horses, intricate landscaping, lakes with fountains and fences that keep the outside world far away. The gated communities come with resort-style amenities like swimming pools and tennis courts, while large estates, villas and mansions almost always come with their own pools. Due to this variety of home styles and sizes, prices in the area range from $755,000 ranch-style homes all the way up to $47,000,000 mansions sitting in their own private communes.

Children in the area attend Hawkes Bluff Elementary School, with an overall Niche grade of B-plus. Next, kids attend Walter C. Young Middle School, which has a Niche grade of B-plus. Teenagers attend West Broward High School, which offers an AICE Cambridge curriculum and has an overall Niche grade of A. The school was ranked the number 11 best high school in Broward County. After school, kids and adults alike can head to the expansive Sunshine Ranches Equestrian Park. This lushly landscaped 20-acre park provides a scenic setting for locals to ride their horses. There are 10 acres of trails for riding or hiking, surrounded by native plants and wildlife. Residents can also use the park’s equestrian practice ring, play at the farm-themed playground and the horseshoe court and contemplate the beauty of nature at the equestrian oasis. Beyond Sunshine Ranches Equestrian Park, the neighborhood has dozens of farms, stables and horse training facilities.

There are also a few pocket parks in the area. Natalie’s Cove Park features a small playground, a swing set and a few park benches. Meanwhile, Palomino Park is another small park offering a playground, walking paths and a basketball court. Waterford Park has various sports facilities for the local athlete, including tennis courts, basketball courts, sand volleyball and an open green space perfect for games of frisbee or catch. Soccer and football games are played at Flamingo Road Park, with fields for both. Retail therapy is close at hand, with Weston Commons, Countryside Shoppes, the Shoppes of Cooper City, Flamingo Falls, Sheridan Shoppes and Regency Square all being nearby shopping centers. Locals grab their morning cup from Cubico Coffee and watch the big game over German pub dishes and beers at Wunderbar Sports Bar & Grill.

Quality groceries are found at the family-owned Southwest Ranches Farmers Market. Locals can buy pasture-raised and grass-fed meats, pasture-raised eggs and raw dairy products from local Amish farmers. Fresh fruit and cottage jams are on offer at Alegria Mango Farm. Other groceries can be found at the nearby Publix Supermarket. Those looking for an equestrian lifestyle amid nature will find it in Sunshine Ranches, where privacy meets prestige.
