McCarran Boulevard-Probasco
Competitive prices and co-op housing
McCarran Boulevard-Probasco, like much of North Sparks, owes its origins to Reno’s suburbanization in the 1950s and 1960s. “McCarran Boulevard-Probasco is an established neighborhood with trees and parks, but just a bit older,” says Kristin Gil, a fourth-generation Nevadan and Broker at Dickson Realty with over two decades of real estate experience in the Reno/Sparks area. This community’s suburban origins are evidenced by its quiet atmosphere and its abundance of single-family house, little libraries and front-yard gardens. Gabrielli says, “There's a lot of residential in there; most of the homes are smaller, entry-level homes built in the 1960s, and a lot of them are one-car garage homes.” Most of these houses are ranch-style, tending to cost between $300,000 and $500,000. However, potential residents interested in senior co-op living can invest in a two-bedroom unit for as low as $150,000.Shopping and dining at McCarran Plaza
This neighborhood’s location along McCarran Boulevard gives residents direct access to major retail hubs such as the McCarran Plaza shopping center. Here, and at the Iron Horse Shopping Center across the street, shoppers can stock their shelves at Foodmaxx, start their morning with some coffee from Starbucks and a donut from Jelly Donut and treat themselves out to meals at local restaurants. Jack’s Coffee House is a popular brunch venue due to its large helpings of classic diner food, while Ijji Sushi and Mariscos El BarCo offer Japanese and seafood specialties. Other shops sell hardware, furniture, auto parts and other everyday necessities, making the corner of Prater and McCarran a one-stop shop for nearly every convenience.Standout schools in the Washoe County School District
McCarran Boulevard-Probasco’s students attend the schools of the Washoe County School District, starting their journey at Florence Drake Elementary School, which receives an A-minus rating from Niche and recognition as its No. 1 Standout Elementary School in Nevada. Learners go on to attend the C-plus-rated Dilworth Middle School and the C-plus-rated Sparks High School, whose football team has won the state championship seven times and imbued this school’s “Railroaders” with an extra dose of school spirit.Desert hiking and local strolls
While McCarran Boulevard-Probasco may be a large neighborhood, residents will find green spaces around every corner. “Reno and Sparks are connected, and all the area neighborhoods have good access to outdoor activities,” says Gil. In fact, Sparks City Parks & Recreation is headquartered along Richards Way, with Church Park’s green space and playground as its back yard. In the stretch of the neighborhood south of McCarran Boulevard, Longford Park includes basketball and tennis courts in addition to a playground, picnic benches, and a wide-open green space for field sports. Aimone Park, situated six blocks north of McCarran Loop, offers a similar set of features just next to Lena Juniper Elementary School. Outdoorsy folks willing to travel can head down to the Sparks Marina, just 2 miles away, to take their dogs to the park or swim and fish in its natural aquifer. At the neighborhood’s northern end, Wedekind Regional Park’s 250 acres of pristine desert hill country invite hikers and bikers to immerse themselves in the Sierra Nevada.Traveling by way of the boulevard
McCarran Boulevard-Probasco draws its name from two major thoroughfares, with McCarran looping around the entire Reno-Sparks metro area and connecting residents to the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, the ski resort of Mount Rose and beyond. Downtown Reno is accessible via a 5-mile and approximately 15-minute drive, while the 2 bus offers a similar journey within 35 minutes. The nearest hospital, the Northern Nevada Medical Center, is just 3 miles down Prater Way from the heart of McCarran Boulevard-Probasco.
