Established neighborhood east of Reno
Reed, a sunny suburb east of Reno, appeals to those who value its proximity to shopping and to the Sierra Nevada Mountains. “Reed is an established neighborhood with single-family residences close to shopping, the freeway, schools, athletic fields and hiking,” says Kristen Gil, a fourth-generation Nevadan and Broker at Dickson Realty with over two decades of real estate experience in the Reno/Sparks area. Plus, local students can work hard and play hard at the area’s highly-rated schools and plethora of parks.
Unique ranch-style homes in Sparks
Gently curving neighborhood streets are wide with a good amount of tree cover. It’s not uncommon to see neighbors out playing tennis or doing yoga. Shaded, paved pathways allow space for jogging, biking and walking dogs. Homes tend to have short driveways, front-facing attached garages and pitched roofs. Most homes are some form of ranch-style, but are not homogenous: some have unique touches like green exterior accents, adobe tile roofs or wooden fences. Three to four-bedroom homes cost between $420,000 and $510,000. One and two-bedroom condos are available in the $200,000s; a three-bedroom goes for $365,000. Monthly rates for condos and apartments start at $1,335.

Centrally located Shadow Mountain Park and Pah Rah Mountain Park, Woodtrail Park to the south and Les Hicks Jr. Park to the north provide ample outdoor recreation opportunities. In the broader sense, “Reno and Sparks are connected, and all the area neighborhoods have good access to outdoor activities,” says Gil. Additionally, “access to Lake Tahoe and skiing is a big draw for the area,” and Reed is about 30 miles from Mount Rose, a popular hiking and skiing spot with locals.
