Charming suburb feel with downtown access
Located less than three miles from Spartanburg’s bustling downtown, Hillcrest offers its residents the chance to feel close to all the urban amenities of the area—while maintaining a cozier, more small-town feel at home. Much of the surrounding area has been renovated and expanded upon in recent years, making Hillcrest feel particularly unique and charming. “So much of that area has really been revitalized and has grown as a result,” says Marshall Jordan, Realtor with Coldwell Banker Caine and longtime Spartanburg resident. “But that vintage vibe is still present in places like Hillcrest, so you get the best of both worlds.” Throw in the area’s natural beauty and convenient access to the Carolinas beyond just Spartanburg, and residents looking for a convenient mix of charm, peace and quiet, and access may find what they’re looking for in Hillcrest.

Vintage style, picturesque yards
Housing in the neighborhood reflects its charming, vintage feel. House designs primarily consist of established builds such as ranch style and split levels, with many of these featuring remodels and renovations that lend a unique flair. Walking down the street, residents can take in the modest yards the homes offer—often featuring beautiful trees such as crepe myrtles and weeping Katsuras. With classic, white picket-fenced yards occasionally popping up along the way too, the area exudes an old-school charm that would lead one to believe it’s farther out than it is. With prices ranging from $190,000 to $370,000, the market in Hillcrest is also more buyer-friendly than some others nearby. “It’s one of the lower-priced areas close to downtown Spartanburg,” says Deborah Guy, Realtor with Allen Tate Co. “Especially considering the renovations in that area, the fact you’re getting homes for less than $400,000—that doesn’t happen in a place like nearby Converse Heights.”
