Halfway between Richmond and D.C. rests Spotsylvania Courthouse, a quiet neighborhood that is perfect for nature lovers. “It’s a nice rural town and it has a ton of green space,” says Joanne Canny of the Fawn Lake Real Estate Company. “There is a lot of water in the area and people love to get out and kayak, fish and just be active outside.” With a pair of parks and what Canny describes as, “spacious lots with plenty of large trees,” between homes, locals are never too far from a slice of nature.

Ranch-style three-bedroom homes around 1,000 square feet begin at $300,000, while four-bedroom tri-level homes are available for around $375,000. Four-bedroom town homes with over 2,200 square feet are in the $400,000 range and larger four-bedroom brick builds can enter the $700,000 ballpark. Houses along Gordon Road may see a bit of through traffic, but parking will not cause a problem as they offer long driveways and multi-car garages. The homes are spread out, providing a sense of quiet and the mature, densely leafed trees offer even more privacy. Sidewalks are sparse in Spotsylvania Courthouse but many of the homes feature spacious yards for letting the dog out.

Students enter the Spotsylvania School District at Courtland Elementary, which holds a B-minus rating on Niche. Spotsylvania Middle holds the same rating and underwent a renovation in 2022. Teens attend Courtland High School, a B-plus-rated school that upgraded its athletics facilities in 2019 to include a new blue football field for the Cougars. The renewal, which included reconfiguring the school’s interior to support STEM learning spaces earned the Gold Award from the Virginia School Boards Association and the VSBA’s People’s Choice Award in 2019.

There is plenty of green space in Spotsylvania Courthouse and no shortage of parks and recreation opportunities. Marshall Park is home to two lighted outdoor basketball courts and multi-purpose fields. The 25-acre park has open space for picnics and a playground area for children. Patriots Park offers a 3.1-mile trail perfect for running or walking. With four baseball diamonds and six multi-purpose fields, Patriots Park is a popular spot for youth sporting events. There is also an amphitheater in the park for local live performances. For indoor activities, the Spotsylvania Branch Family YMCA provides full workout equipment, a pool and indoor basketball courts.

Courthouse Café and Pizza serves up breakfast and lunch seven days a week. Breakfast specials include sausage gravy biscuits with home fries Monday-Thursday and two eggs with scrapple and toast on Fridays. The lunch specials of classic sub combos and pizza are favorites with the locals. Sam’s Pizza & Subs is another spot where customers can customize their own pie or order one of nine specialty pizzas. ITAVIE New York Grill and Bakery has Italian favorites like pesto chicken tortellini and shrimp and crab cognac, but also offers Sunday breakfast options like frittatas and smoked salmon bagels. The café is open daily at 11 a.m. and at 8 a.m. Sunday’s dishing out piping hot cappuccinos and Sicilian cannoli.

There is no shortage of options when it comes to grocery shopping in the Spotsylvania Courthouse neighborhood. National chains like Giant Foods and Weis Markets are available off Highway 208 and provide residents with the ability to scoop up a week's worth of groceries in one stop. The Target at Cosner’s Corner is perfect for household needs, and there are plenty more retail options along Germanna Highway. Spotsylvania Towne Centre will delight any shopper with over 100 shops including nationally recognized outlets and smaller local boutiques.
