Lower priced homes near State College and Penn State
Spring Township is a rural, Centre County community with mountainous recreational opportunities and a variety of homes at a lower price than surrounding areas. Originally founded as Upper Bald Eagle Township in 1786, it got its current name from the natural springs found throughout the area. Iron, brass and limestone industries began to boom here in the early 1800s, transforming the town into a major mining hub. Several mines are still in operation today and serve as an employer for the area. Spring Township also attracts those looking for a lower cost of living while staying close to Pennsylvania State University. “The township is more affordable than State College, and you’re less than 10 minutes from the university,” says Samantha Hassinger, a Realtor with RE/MAX Centre Realty, who’s been selling homes around the area for two years.
Most homes in the Spring area have large lots to frolic and enjoy.
Bellefonte is located in Spring, Pa and is the busiest area within to enjoy and shop.

Local staples like Sunset West
There’s a Weis Markets off Zion Road for groceries. Sunset West has been a local staple since 1972, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner favorites. And Robin Hood Brewing Co. has been dishing out pints and pub eats for over a decade. “There are also quite a few local shops in Bellefonte,” says Hassinger. “For general grocery stores, people usually go to State College for more of a selection.” Choices there include Trader's Joes, Wegmans, Weis Markets and Giant.

The Bellefonte Arts & Crafts Fair has been held annually since 1983. The event takes place along North Allegheny Street and features over 100 local artists and food vendors. Just 6 miles south, thousands camp in tents or RVs for the Centre County Grange Fair, the only remaining tenting fair in the country. Running for over 150 years, the nine-day event offers amusement rides, games, motorsport and equine events, vendors, food trucks and live music from different artists each night.
Commuting via I-99
