Spring Lake Park is a bedroom community near the Twin Cities with a charming, small-town atmosphere, thanks to its community events and lakeside parks. There’s also plenty of shopping in the area, making it easy to get all the essentials. Location is a major draw, with highways leading to the Twin Cities in about 15 miles and major employers only a few minutes away.

Single-family homes and townhouses on wide roads
Most of the area’s housing market consists of ranch-style homes and split-levels built in the mid-to-late 20th century. Houses come with wide driveways and attached garages, and there is plenty of space for street parking. There are also several townhouses and condos. Prices generally fall between the mid-$100,000s and the high $400,000s.

Commuters can reach either of the Twin Cities in 25 minutes
One of the main reasons people move here is because of the commute to the Twin Cities. “It’s a bedroom community with good freeway access, which is one of the draws,” says Realtor Laura Heppner with Keller Williams Classic Realty, who has worked in the area for almost 15 years. Minnesota County Highway goes through Spring Lake Park and intersects with State Highway 65, and leads about 15 miles to downtown Minneapolis. Downtown Saint Paul is also about 15 miles away. The commute can take up to 25 minutes during rush hour. Public transportation is also available, with Metro Transit buses stopping in the area.
While many residents work in the Twin Cities, Heppner says, “The hospital there, Mercy, has a good reputation and provides a lot of jobs.” Mercy Hospital – Unity Campus is technically in Fridley but is within walking distance of some homes in Spring Lake Park.
Local restaurants and popular stores along the highway
There are a handful of restaurants in the area, ranging from national chains to locally owned breweries. Options include:
Frida’s Little Mexican Restaurant, which serves traditional Mexican dishes
Torg Brewery, a craft brewery with a rotating selection of beers
Bizzee Bee’s Cafe & Pies, which makes fresh pies every day
Major retailers at Northtown Mall and grocery options like Hy-Vee can be found along the intersection of highways 10 and 65. You can also find more niche shops like Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop, which sells sweet treats and glass-bottled sodas. “The location is nice because there’s a lot of good shopping,” Heppner says.

Students can attend Spring Lake Park or Mounds View schools
Depending on where you live, you’ll be assigned to the Spring Lake Park Public School District, which earns a B from Niche, or the A-rated Mounds View Public School District. At Spring Lake High School, which scores a B, students can enroll in a career pathway to get on-the-job experience before graduation.
Park Terrace Elementary is in Spring Lake Park.
Westwood Intermediate and Middle serve Spring Lake Park.
Spring Lake Park High School offers a Pathways career prep program.

Local parks include Lakeside Lions Park
There is no shortage of opportunities to get outside. Lakeside Lions Park is on the north shore of Spring Lake, with amenities like a fishing pier, sand volleyball courts and a playground. At Laddie Lake Park, you can work out on the forested exercise trails. Skaters practice on the ramps at Terrace Park, which has plenty of open fields. The city’s iconic water tower stands over Able Park, where you can play on the ballfields in the summer and skate on the ice rinks in the winter.
