A planned neighborhood in southeastern Springfield
On the crests of the southeastern Springfield hills is the aptly named Southern Hills neighborhood. This 1950s planned community is known for its nature-focused design, which can be seen without even getting out of the car. “Driving through, you’ll notice people pushing strollers and walking dogs,” says Adam Graddy, a Realtor with Keller Williams. “With the large lots and places to hike, people spend a lot of time outside.” The neighborhood’s private pool club adds an additional element of the outdoors. Southern Hills focuses on long-term development through its Community Improvement District, where neighbors work to restore older homes and preserve local waters.

Southern Hills has desirable midcentury homes
Southern Hills' winding roads are flanked by tall trees. Large ponds, fed by Galloway Creek and surrounded by native plants, make for scenic walks and drives, though sidewalks are not always available. “Southern Hills is coveted for the mid-century architecture you can find here,” Graddy says. Ranch-style houses built in the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s have low-pitched roofs and yards of about a third of an acre. Prices range from $200,000 to $500,000 for three-to-five bedrooms, depending on size and condition.
Homes throughout Southern Hills are surrounded by large, mature trees.

Southern Hills Swim Club sponsors the Dolphins swim team, and also welcomes tennis and pickleball players.
