Expanding rural city with a small-town feel

Springville is a small city in northeast Alabama with a charming downtown and ample space to grow. Although the community has a relatively small population, many are flocking to the area. "Springville is a friendly community where neighbors know each other by name. A great number of people are moving in, but the area still has a small-town feel," says Elizabeth Naylor, a local Realtor with RE/MAX Marketplace for over 10 years. "When people come here, they are reminded of a Nicholas Sparks town or the setting from a Hallmark movie."

Colonial Revivals and traditional farmhouses

Homes in the community range from traditional styles from the 20th century to farmhouses with board and batten. Colonial-inspired architecture and contemporary brick houses are also present. Naylor says the influx in residents is supported by many new housing developments. Some of the most recent builds are found inside Archers Cove and Sweetwater subdivisions. Residences list between $250,000 and $500,000. However, buyers can expect to pay more for move-in-ready homes over 3,000 square feet in size.

Grocery shopping at Burton's

The central Main Street is a walkable downtown corridor inviting locals to Springville's charming business district. Shoppers can get produce and pantry items at Burton's Food Store and secondhand treasures at Springville Antique Mall. There are several shops to choose from, like the local boutique Cloth on Main. The Farmhouse of Springville is a family-friendly restaurant serving comforting southern-style fare. Naylor recommends visiting Nicholas Nook Coffee House with friends for the cozy and relaxed atmosphere. The coffee shop sells books and puzzles and has a brick-paved courtyard out back.

High-marks at St. Clair County Schools

Springville Elementary is considered one of the top elementary schools in St. Clair County and receives a B from Niche. Springville Middle ranks as the best middle school in the county with a B-plus grade. The government announced plans to construct a new middle school building. Teens graduate from Springville High, which also has a B from Niche. "The schools are excellent, and the staff is fantastic," Naylor says; her children attended and graduated from the local schools. Parents may also choose the private school option, Pearl Lake Christian Academy.

Paved paths with lake views at Big Springs Park

Big Springs Park is a community gathering space with a splash pad, playgrounds and volleyball court. Sometimes, locals are seen playing and cooling off in the nearby creek. Along the stream and lake is a track for joggers that stays lighted at night. Next door is the Springville Senior Center and a dedicated dog park.

Annual holiday parades on Main Street

Throughout the year, locals can attend festivals, parades and other community events that give this city a small-town feel. "Locals really enjoy the Homecoming parade and Treats on Main for Halloween," Naylor says. Homestead Hollow is a popular event venue hosting music and holiday festivals annually. "On Main Street, a historic residence is decorated several times a year for every holiday. We call it the "Magic Porch of Springville," Naylor says.

Transportation around Springville

Interstate 59 reaches across the area, bringing locals to other nearby communities. The city is about 16 miles West of Ashville and 30 miles North of Birmingham.
