Tusseyview's quiet community is near Penn State
Tusseyville, a mile from downtown State College, includes a popular retirement village. “Foxdale Village is a huge Quaker-run organization for retirees and for people who need care in their elderly years,” says Peter Chiarkas, a real estate agent with Kissinger Bigatel & Bower Realtors. "There’s a long waiting list to try to get in there. It is a sought-after place to be.”
The State College Friends Meeting, a local Quaker community organization, started making plans to build the village in 1985. Now, Foxdale is a neatly organized campus with quick access to downtown and The Pennsylvania State University, without the bustling activity of a college campus. “Tusseyview is far enough removed from campus that you should not run into many students in these neighborhoods,” says Larry Walker, associate broker and partner with Kissinger Bigatel & Bower Realtors.
Tusseyview is adjacent to Pennsylvania farmlands offering scenic overlooks from residences.

Berkey Creamery before the big game
The most popular season in State College is football season. Fans pack into Beaver Stadium to cheer on the Nittany Lions from August to December. Before or after the game, attendees stop by the Berkey Creamery at Penn State for creamy, handmade ice cream. The creamery also sells cheese, butter, cream cheese and other milk-based products made from Penn State’s herd of over 200 cows. While football is only for a season, the State College Friends Meeting works year-round and holds committee meetings and presentations on topical issues such as climate change and racial justice. Pennsylvania’s geology exposes it to the dangers of radon, an odorless and colorless gas caused by decaying uranium in the soil and water. Most homes have a radon mitigation system already installed, but it is important that new homebuyers verify this.
