Small-town living with popular locally owned dining
What once started as a small town formed in 1866 has grown into the bustling Stayton community. Today, locals have access to highly rated schools, popular restaurants and locally owned shops. “Stayton is quiet, and some people move in and stay for good. There's a wide age range of people,” says Shari Zakrzewski, a manager at Rivertown Apartments. Those who want to take a trip to Salem use the nearby U.S. Route 22, but locals don’t have to go far to find relaxing recreation. After hanging out at Pioneer Park, residents go down North 3rd Avenue to get lunch at Covered Bridge Cafe or shop at a local thrift store. Despite being surrounded by farmland, Stayton has downtown amenities to keep residents comfortable in the quiet town.

Meeting friends at the Covered Bridge Café or Snow Peak
Residents don’t have to travel far to find popular restaurants and entertainment spots. Snow Peak Brewing Company always sees a crowd. “The Covered Bridge Cafe is popular. People go there for breakfast and lunch, and I think they close before dinner. Ixtapa Mexican Restaurant is also a popular spot,” Zakrzewski says. Bakeries like The Lovin’ Oven serve fresh pastries, and the Daily Buzz keeps people going with coffee. When locals need to stock up on groceries, they visit Safeway or Roth’s Fresh Market. Not to mention the Dollar Tree on North First Avenue, where people can go for last-minute essentials.
Locally owned shops also sit along North 3rd Avenue, including What the Quirk, Vintage Emporium, Sugarheroes LLC, Sax Thrift Avenue and West End Boutique.
