On a map, Strathmoor Village might appear to be in the middle of a bustling section of outer Louisville. The Kentucky neighborhood sits between Taylorsville Road and Bardstown Road, both of which stretch for miles and are part of the network that links the major city with other areas in-state and out. However, that belies its residential atmosphere, which makes for quiet living while staying close to major metropolitan areas. “It’s a very small area of homes with well-kept, very neat lawns,” says Bob Sokoler, owner of the Sokoler Team at RE/MAX Properties East. “It’s very quaint, and it’s difficult to find homes there. They rarely go on the market, and when they do, they’re swallowed up rather quickly.”

The homes within Strathmoor Village
Housing styles come in an array of flavors within Strathmoor, with triangular facades of cottage-style designs adding an angular facet to the landscape. Brick American Foursquares, Colonial revivals and other styles populate the area and add an element of architectural tradition, with front porches, well-maintained yards and sidewalks making for a scenic view while on a run. Some of Strathmoor’s long, narrow, tree-lined roadways ultimately yield to Taylorsville and Bardstown, two roads making up part of the neighborhood’s boundaries and serving as primary thoroughfares. Homes there have sold for anywhere between $300,000 and $600,000, but mostly fall close to $450,000 and $500,000.

Mouth-watering menu items
For a local bite or two, Bardstown Road offers several outlets to choose from, including Kern's Korner and its small neighborhood bar atmosphere. “Strathmoor Village is within walking distance of a variety of restaurants,” Sokoler says. “That includes a popular location of Krispy Kreme. Though there’s no restaurants or commercial establisments within it, there’s King Buffet on Bardstown Road, which has an all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet and the largest shrimp on a buffet that I’ve ever seen.” Sol Azteca is a popular stop for Mexican fare, while Air Devils Inn has been in operation for nearly a century and is a favorite spot to watch a game or listen to music.

Triangulated traffic around the village
Strathmoor Village, along with Hawthorne, Kingsley and Wellington, are all contained within a triangle-shaped layout of main thoroughfares that keep the area within about 10 miles of downtown Louisville. On the northern side, Taylorsville Road is also noted as Route 155 and spans more than 20 miles in a southeast trajectory. Facing the southwest is Route 150, which stretches north into Indiana and Illinois and south into prominent cities within Kentucky as well. Bowman Field is also just across Taylorsville Road, as well, meaning it’s easy to see some airborne traffic and planes making their ascent or descent over the neighborhood.
