Eateries in Sublimity, 30 minutes from Salem, attract a crowd with their homemade food and friendly environment. “The community is what makes Sublimity so special,” says Katie Scott, City Recorder and resident. “Everyone here is really friendly.” Walking down North Center Street, residents have their pick of locally owned restaurants and shops. Residents gather together for the holidays to attend the light parade that culminates in the lighting of the City Christmas Tree. A 15-minute drive from Sublimity lies the crown jewel of the Oregon State Parks, Silver Falls. A crevice of rock behind a waterfall is a natural viewing area for visitors to see clear water turn silver in the light.

The Nickel, homemade breadsticks on Center Street
Cutting through the heart of Sublimity, North Center Street is a hot spot for local shops and eateries. Ditter’s Town Square houses self-care essentials, from hair salons to eye care. Within this business center is K’s Coffee, a homestyle ranch-themed coffeeshop, where locals can cozy up on thick pleather couches with warm drinks. For lunch, visit the family at PanezaNellie Breadstick Shoppe, located in a foursquare home; the interior is decorated with aprons, teapots and wooden signs. The Italian restaurant offers breadsticks and pizzas as well as coffee and baked goods. The Wooden Nickel, or “The Nickel” as the locals call it, serves homemade bread, meats and garden-grown vegetables. Locals visit the dinner location for their rectangular hamburgers, live music and the monthly special. Attend a wine tasting while shopping for a one-of-a-kind gift at Shabby Shed. The locally owned home goods store offers wooden signs, furniture, locally made soy candles and other home additions. Groceries and other necessities may be purchased at the Stop-N-Save near the Chevron gas station. Locals may visit Stayton, 2 miles from Sublimity, for chain restaurants and grocery stores.

Light Parade and Harvest Festival
Cars and tractors adorned with colorful lights roll in a parade from Church Park to Sublimity Park. The parade culminates in the lighting of the City Christmas Tree in Sublimity Park. During the summer months, movies play in Sublimity Park and an annual city-wide garage sale takes place. “Locals around town have a big garage sale, with many residences involved,” says Katie Scott, City Recorder and resident. Rooted in a 1973 competition between two farmers, the Sublimity Harvest Festival draws crowds from all over the West Coast to see which tractor can pull the farthest.

Stayton High School equestrian team

Visit Sublimity Park, also known as Early Settlers Park, for a game of tennis or baseball while the little ones use the play structure. To play disc golf, visit Church Park and walk on the trails. OR-22 and regional transit
Sublimity is bisected by Cascade Hwy SE, which becomes North Center Street and is bordered by OR-22. These routes make travel to the nearest city of Salem a 30-minute drive and an hour drive to Portland. Regional transit through Cherriots will take locals into Salem and the mid-Willamette Valley.

St. Boniface and Marion Estates
St. Boniface, the second oldest church with an active parish in Oregon, has been in Sublimity since 1879. Residents may attend service there and admire the ornate altarpiece, handmade by Engelbert Gier in 1908, or visit the St. Boniface Community Archives and Museum located in the old convent building. Created by Father Scherbring of St. Boniface and now run by Jan Baldwin, Marian Estates offers independent and assisted senior living.
