Luzerne County suburb near industrial park
Sugar Notch is a quaint area in the Pocono Mountains with older homes and quick interstate access. Located in Luzerne County, which was founded in 1786, the area has agricultural roots that are still evident today. In the 1800s and 1900s, anthracite coal mining became a major industry for the county. By the 2000s, most of the mines had closed and the population declined. Over the past 25 years, Luzerne County’s population has begun to rise with the development of new job opportunities. Just north of the neighborhood, there’s a large industrial park with warehouses for companies like Adidas, Gatorade and Chewy. Today, Sugar Notch maintains its aged appeal while staying connected to changing cities like Wilkes-Barre and Scranton.
