Quiet, expansive vibe within fast-growing Sun Prairie
The Renstone neighborhood in central Sun Prairie gives off the vibe of a classic American suburb. Characterized by ranch-style homes with tidy lawns on spacious lots, and tall but well-spaced trees that give the neighborhood an expansive, open feel. Sun Prairie lies about 12 miles northeast of Madison and is one of the fastest-growing parts of the metro. Renstone residents can access those growing amenities while enjoying the mellow atmosphere of a 1970s suburb. A neighborhood park and Sun Prairie’s highly rated school district round out the key elements of this location.
Spacious lots and ranch-style homes
Renstone is largely comprised of ranch-style homes with well-maintained lawns, creating a spacious, expansive feeling. Homes usually have attached garages. Colonial Revivals are less common but still notable. Most were constructed in the 1970s and 80s. Sun Prairie has grown rapidly in recent decades and is now home to several neighborhoods built more recently than Renstone. “It’s a newer development than, say, Royal Oaks,” says Matt Deadman, a Realtor and broker with Real Broker LLC. “But it’s certainly not the most expensive neighborhood in Sun Prairie anymore.” Prices range from $325,000 to $475,000.

Trade skill courses available at Sun Prairie East High
The Sun Prairie School District is one of the more highly rated districts in the Madison area and earns an A-minus from Niche. “The school district is a big part of the growth,” says Taylor Brown, the economic development director with the City of Sun Prairie. “It’s welcoming and accommodating, and lots of languages are spoken here.” Bird Elementary scores a B-minus from Niche. Patrick Marsh Middle School earns a B and Sun Prairie East High earns an A. Sun Prairie East offers art, music and trade skills courses, AP classes and an early college partnership program with Madison College.
CH Bird Elementary School is a PK-5 public grade school with an overall B- rating on Niche.
Sun Prairie East High School is a beautiful campus located just south of downtown Sun Prairie.

Close to Sun Prairie’s recent growth with access to Madison
Renstone is centrally located within Sun Prairie. “In terms of proximity and location, it’s very good,” Deadman says. “You can easily access highways 19, 151 and C. You can get to downtown Madison.” Downtown Madison is about 12 miles southwest. Highway 19 connects with Interstates 90 and 94 about 5 miles west of Sun Prairie, useful for trips to Milwaukee, Chicago or Minneapolis. The Dane County Regional Airport is 10 miles southwest. UW Health’s East Madison Hospital is under 7 miles away. Madison buses also serve Sun Prairie, with stops along Windsor Street at Renstone’s southern border.
Winter ice skating at the neighborhood’s Renstone Park
Residents can head to Renstone Park to play basketball, enjoy the playground, or skate on the ice rink in winter. During warm summer days, Prairie Athletic Club has an outdoor water park that’s a popular destination, though club membership is required. For nature hikes, camping or a round of disc golf at the 27-hole course, Token Creek County Park is just west of Sun Prairie, about 5 miles from Renstone.

Buck N Honey’s and Sal’s Tomato Pies are two nearby local eateries
Renstone’s central location allows for convenient access to Sun Prairie’s shopping and dining scene. To the west, along Grand Avenue, is a booming set of new developments highlighted by chain restaurants and big-box stores such as Target, Costco and local grocery chain Woodman’s Food Market. The closest grocery option is Metro Market, a little over 2 miles from Renstone. Sun Prairie is also home to local restaurants like Buck N Honey’s, which serves upscale pub fare and weekend brunch, and Sal’s Tomato Pies.

Groundhog’s Day and Sweet Corn Festival among long-running Sun Prairie traditions
Renstone residents can enjoy two of Sun Prairie’s most notable events. In winter, a long-held Groundhog’s Day celebration has been recently expanded into the multi-day Frozen Fest, which culminates in Jimmy the Groundhog’s annual prediction. This usually goes off smoothly, though Jimmy did bite the mayor’s ear in 2015, causing a bit of a stir. In the summer, the Sweet Corn Festival serves up over 80 tons of Wisconsin sweet corn to thousands of participants.
