Wachesaw East Golf Club is open to everyone
Wachesaw Plantation Club and Wachesaw East Golf Club are only 3 miles apart, and both are built along the area’s former rice fields. Wachesaw East has a public 18-hole course and an on-site restaurant, making it easy for anyone to stop by for a game and a quick meal. The larger Wachesaw Plantation Club is completely private and offers its members an additional golf course, a pool, and pickleball and tennis courts. The club is also next to the Wacca Wache Marina, one of the closest places to dock on the Waccamaw River. A smaller boat launch is at Morse Park Landing on Swale Avenue, which has a crabbing dock along the southern marshes. Toasted Tee Grub and Pub on Riverwood Drive is Wachesaw East’s on-site restaurant, with an outdoor bar and large deck overlooking the golf course. The kitchen is open until 2 p.m. every day, cooking up appetizers, breakfast platters and sandwiches. Cocktails and beer are served throughout the day, and cigar smoking is welcomed on the deck. The Murrells Inlet Marsh Walk, one of the area’s biggest food destinations, is next to Ocean Highway, a short stroll or golf cart ride away. The Walk’s top restaurants, including Bovine’s and the Dead Dog Saloon, are known for their selections of crab legs, baked oysters and lobster. Fresh local fish, shrimp and clams are also for sale at the inlet’s seafood shops, like Harrelson’s Seafood Market on Ocean Highway. Anything else to cook at home can be found at Food Lion on Mink Avenue or Walmart Neighborhood Market at the Inlet Crossing Shopping Center on Ocean Highway. The most popular homes in Wachesaw East are one-story new traditional properties from the early 2000s. These residences tend to be under 2,500 square feet and are priced between $350,000 and $550,000. At the front of the neighborhood are condos and townhouses near the golf course ranging from $250,000 to $300,000. Many homes have backyard views of the course and small ponds, and walking trails connect the entire community. Wachesaw East allows residents to ride golf carts anywhere on property, making it a favorite way for locals to get around. While Wachesaw East homes are not directly on the river or the beach, the entire inlet is still prone to flooding, especially during tropical storms or hurricanes. Ocean Highway – also known as Route 17 – is next to the front gates of Wachesaw Plantation East. The highway is the best way to reach Myrtle Beach, 16 miles away. The community is also directly next to Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital, Murrells Inlet’s main healthcare facility, and Emmanuel Bible Church. A Coast RTA bus stop at the hospital makes it easy to get on board and take the daily route between Georgetown and Myrtle Beach. Living next to the hospital also has added benefits during storm season. “Wachesaw East is on the power grid for the hospital, so it’s very rare you’re going to lose power there,” Nordstrom says.Georgetown County Schools serve Murrells Inlet
Wachesaw Plantation East is zoned into to the Georgetown County School District, one of two school districts serving Murrells Inlet families. Georgetown County Schools includes Waccamaw Elementary School, which has an A-minus grade, and Waccamaw Intermediate School, Waccamaw Middle School and Waccamaw High School, which all have B-plus grades on Niche. Waccamaw High is known for its wide variety of school clubs, from an Aeronautics and Aviation Club to a tennis team with over 30 state titles. Coastal Carolina University is in Conway, 18 miles from Murrells Inlet, known for its exercise science and marine biology programs.
