Wachesaw Plantation
The private amenities of Wachesaw Plantation Club
Wachesaw Plantation Club is the centerpiece of the community. Built on the region’s former rice fields, the club has a private 18-hole course, a pool, a clubhouse and multiple clay tennis courts. While club membership is not required to live in Wachesaw Plantation, many locals become members to take full advantage of the amenities and social scene. An additional 18-hole course is at Wachesaw East Golf Club on Riverwood Drive, an extension of the original Plantation Club. Wachesaw Plantation is also next to the Wacca Wache Marina along the Waccamaw River. Boaters can travel up the river to the Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge, which has been used as an archeological dig site for Coastal Carolina University and the University of South Carolina. Many tools, pottery shards and pieces of the jewelry from the wildlife refuge are now displayed in the Wachesaw Plantation clubhouse to showcase the area's history.Lunch and drinks at Kimbels, right on the links
Kimbels on Magill Way is Wachesaw Plantation Club’s main dining option. The restaurant serves burgers, salads and seafood in a dining room overlooking the course. The club also has a small poolside café for sandwiches, wraps and cold drinks, and a members’ tavern for beer or cocktails before or after hitting the course. Wacca Wache Marina has its own attached restaurant, Walter’s. Boaters can easily dock and then climb onto the deck to get dinner, have a drink or listen to live music as the sun sets over the river. The Murrells Inlet Marsh Walk on Ocean Highway hosts most of the “Seafood Capital of South Carolina’s” most popular restaurants like Bovine’s, Dead Dog Saloon, and Drunken Jack’s. The inlet has both small independent seafood markets like Harrelson’s Seafood Market and big-box shops like Walmart at the Inlet Square Mall on Ocean Highway.A years’ worth of Marsh Walk celebrations
The country club has many social events to keep its members busy, including bingo nights, group dinners, comedy shows and murder mystery dinners. Social groups like book clubs, card clubs and Ladies’ Association also have their own events to add to the community calendar. In Murrells Inlet proper, the Marsh Walk has multiple annual events, from the Grand Strand’s largest fireworks show during the July 4th Boat Parade to the Wonderland of Lights display just in time for Christmas.Homes among Wachesaw Plantation’s signature live oaks
Most of Wachesaw Plantation’s homes were built in the late 1980s through the 2000s and have a classic turn-of-the-century look. New traditional homes with brick facades and Lowcountry-style properties with wide porches and dormer windows are some of the most common here. Homes under 3,000 square feet range from $400,000 to $700,000, while larger residences sell for $700,000 to $1 million. Wachesaw Plantation also has some townhouses priced between $400,000 to $500,000. Every section of the community is built into thousands of towering live oaks along winding roads. “When you drive into Wachesaw Plantation, the first thing that hits you is it’s elegant; it’s an authentic Southern landscape,” says Mel Nordstrom, a Realtor with Keller Williams Innovate South who has lived in the Grand Strand for over 15 years. Coastal flooding is common after heavy rainfall, and homes close to the river are more likely to be impacted by rising water levels. The neighborhood also has 24/7 security and a manned gate, contributing to its desirable CAP Index Crime Score of 2 out of 10.Ocean Highway connects Murrells Inlet to Myrtle Beach
Wachesaw Plantation is about 3 miles from Ocean Highway, the area’s main thoroughfare, which keeps it away from the sound of traffic. The highway, also known as Route 17, is still easy to reach and surrounded by shops, restaurants and multiple houses of worship, including Murrells Inlet Presbyterian Church and First Belin Memorial United Methodist Church. Ocean Highway is the best way to drive to Myrtle Beach, 19 miles away. Coast RTA also operates a daily bus route to the larger city. In addition to plenty of shopping, dining and family-friendly attractions like museums and amusement parks, Myrtle Beach has Myrtle Beach International, one of area’s largest commercial airports.Tennis and robotics at Waccamaw High School
Murrells Inlet is zoned into two different school districts, Horry County Schools and the Georgetown County School District. Wachesaw Plantation families can send their children to Georgetown schools, like Waccamaw Elementary School, which Niche gives an A-minus grade. Waccamaw Intermediate School, Waccamaw Middle School and Waccamaw High School all have B-plus grades on Niche. Waccamaw High has a variety of student groups, from robotics and aeronautics clubs to state-title-winning football, soccer and tennis teams. The Horry-Georgetown Technical College Grand Strand Campus is in Myrtle Beach and is most known for its International Culinary Institute.
