Sixteen Mile Stand
New Traditional and mid-century homes
Sixteen Mile Stand offers a range of housing options from 4,000-square-foot Colonial Revivals and New Traditionals built between the 1980s and ‘90s to the more modest midcentury ranch-style and split-level designs. The neighborhood’s largest homes, many of which boast grand entryways, multicar garages and steep gabled roofs, typically cost between $650,000 and $1 million. Older properties, meanwhile, range in price from around $350,000 to $650,000. The community also offers townhouse and condo options, including penthouse units in communities like Montgomery at the Vintage Club, which can sell for close to $1 million. Lot sizes in Sixteen Mile Stand tend to be generous—averaging around half an acre—which means enough room for in-ground swimming pools and plenty of space for dogs to run around. With the exception of Montgomery Road, the streets here are quiet and have little traffic, and the neighborhood has a 2 out of 10 CAP Index Crime Score, which is below the national average of 4.Sand volleyball, colorful playgrounds and walking trails in community parks
On the southeastern border of Sixteen Mile Stand is Weller Park, home to a sand volleyball court, a playground surrounded by paved walking trails and even an outdoor ping-pong table. In September, Weller Park hosts the annual GCOA—Greater Cincinnati Ostomy Association—Picnic, and come summertime the “Touch a Truck” event, where children can climb aboard tractors, dump trucks and firetrucks. Benches line shaded pathways at the CHCA Family Memorial Garden found next to Edyth B. Lindner Elementary School, a private Christian academy, and Symmes Park spans close to 4 acres just outside the neighborhood. It has basketball courts and a brand-new playground, popular for its colorful, storybook-like climbing structures.Memberships at the Club at Harper’s Point, an ‘anchor’ in the community
Some families here opt to invest in memberships at The Club at Harper’s Point, where they can join tennis clinics, find personal trainers or order a cocktail from the Cabana Bar next to the outdoor swimming pool. “We have many annual events, from our tennis camp that runs all summer long to our inner-city leagues,” says Contardi. He goes on to note the history of the club as an “anchor” in the community. “We are celebrating our 50th anniversary,” he says. “Interstate 275 is the beltway that goes around the city and we are a mile north of that. The club was built before the beltway was, and, at the time, it was really far out in an area that was mostly fields.” Over the past 50 years, the club’s partners and its earliest members have seen exponential growth, from the addition of stately brick residences to shopping plazas along Montgomery Road. The Synnovation Lab at Sycamore High School
Access to top-rated public education is a driving force behind Sixteen Mile Stand’s popularity and families can enroll their children in the Sycamore Community School District. Students here start off Symmes Elementary School for kindergarten through fourth grade before moving on to E.H. Greene Intermediate. Symmes Elementary earns an A-plus from review site, Niche, while E.H. Green receives an A rating. Sycamore Junior High School and Sycamore High School both have A-plus grades and the high school partners with Great Oaks Career Campuses to offer college credits and career certifications to eligible students. Youth can also apply to join the Synnovation—Sycamore Innovation—Lab, which offers personalized and project-based learning pathways.Retail at the intersection of Kemper and Montgomery Roads
Shopping within the neighborhood is highly centralized and most businesses are concentrated at the intersection of Kemper Road and Montgomery Road; it’s Sixteen Mile Stand’s unofficial downtown. There are nail spas, small clothing boutiques and national chains like Kroger, where most residents shop for groceries. Others pick up ingredients at Fresh Thyme Market, while others dine out at family restaurants like Silver Spring House. “I call it our ‘Cheers,’" says Contardi, adding that the walls of this locally-owned chicken restaurant are decorated with photographs of returning patrons. A variety of international cuisines are also available in nearby plazas; fresh rolls and sashimi are chosen from a conveyor belt at Kawa Revolving Sushi and Cazador Mexican Grill serves margaritas on its outdoor patio during the warmer months. Eastern European baked goods are displayed behind lighted glass cases at Servatii Symmes.Metro bus routes into Cincinnati, drivers take Interstate 71
Although it’s far more common for Cincinnati commuters to rely on their own cars, there are also public transit options available at the intersection of Kemper and Montogomery; routes downtown include a combination of Metro buses 67 and 78. The neighborhood’s proximity to Interstate 71 makes the 16-mile drive relatively straightforward. Home to a dozen commercial airlines, the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport is approximately 30 miles from Sixteen Mile Stand across the Ohio River. Residents can easily access medical care at Bethesda North Hospital off Montogomery Road.Sycamore Township events, the Loveland Castle and roller coasters in Mason
Sixteen Mile Stand is approximately 7 miles from the heart of Sycamore Township, where residents can attend annual events like Music in the Park, a free outdoor series known for featuring cover bands, food vendors and game stations for kids. The Township also hosts meet-and-greets with Santa in Bechtold Park during the holiday season, and there’s an annual car show in August. Other nearby attractions include the Loveland Castle Museum, which is about 4 miles from the neighborhood. Entry fees are $5 and visitors can participate in Ghost Hunts or stop by the sword collection in the 1920s-era stone fortress. Sixteen Mile Stand is also around 7 miles from Kings Island Amusement Park in Mason, which has 15 rollercoasters, a waterpark and a model of the Eiffel Tower that stands over 300 feet.
