Northside
From Victorians to bungalows
Stately Victorians and Tudors dating back to the 20s can be found in the Sedgwick area. Residents who won these homes receive an additional perk, a tax break to offset the costs of maintaining historic homes. Moving west toward Lakefront into the Washington Square neighborhood and north toward Lyncourt, homes are smaller, and pricing reflects these changes. "Lots are small here," Perkins says. "All less than ¼ acre." Old-style homes also grace the neighborhood, comprising bungalows and Colonial revivals. Many homes do not have garages, and prices range from $45,000 to $469,000. "Currently, Inventory is down as it is all over Syracuse," Perkins saysMicron Technology to bring in jobs
Syracuse's economy is looking brighter as Micron Technology, the computer chip factory, is slated to break ground in the northern suburbs in 2024, ensuring that Northside will receive plenty of fringe benefits, thousands of job opportunities and auxiliary businesses. Interstates 81 and 690 skirts Northside's western and southern boundaries, making commuting much easier. Downtown Syracuse is less than a 2-mile drive on local streets. The area has several Centro bus stops, and Syracuse Hancock International Airport is a 5-mile drive via I-81.Several dining staples to choose from
Residents can get their groceries at Price Rite Marketplace of Syracuse, a 2-mile drive on local streets. Northside features a wide variety of international restaurants, including Caribbean, East African and traditional American, to name a few. Stella's Diner on the west side of town is a popular spot for American comfort foods in a nostalgic setting. The renowned cartoon character Betty Boop graces the diner's menus, mugs and other memorabilia. Authentic Italian dining is on the menu at Francesca's Cucina, a locally beloved restaurant known for its daily scallops special, chicken riggies and famous butter cake served à la mode and drizzled with strawberry sauce. One of Perkins' favorite eateries is Biscotti Cafe & Pastry Shop, which serves soups, sandwiches and a variety of Italian pastries. Residential life prevails in Northside. Most locals head downtown for entertainment, which keeps the area's streets relatively quiet.Community center offers programs for all ages
There are several parks that serve the Northside area. McChesney Park has two softball diamonds, two tennis and basketball courts and a playground. It is also the site for Magnarelli Community Center, which provides active senior programming during the day and transitions to teen programming after school into the evening. The 37-acre Schiller Park features a public pool, tennis courts, playgrounds, a soccer field and its own community center. Lincoln Park has a tennis court, a Little League Field and a playground.High school offers AP program
Students may start their education at Dr. Weeks Elementary School and move on to Grant Middle School. Both schools have a Niche grade of C-minus. Cicero-North Syracuse High School offers Advanced Placement® coursework and exams and has a B grade from Niche.
