Winkworth has relaxed suburban living on Syracuse's west end
Winkworth's wide, residential streets wind through hills and wooded yards on the far west end of Syracuse. Although only 4 miles from downtown and minutes from several shopping centers, Winkworth's location bordering the Bellevue Country Club lends it a quiet, suburban atmosphere. "People don't know about it, but once you know what it is, everyone loves it. Everything is right around Winkworth, but it's tucked away," says Chatarina Etoll, associate broker at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices CNY Realty. "You can quickly get to downtown, the amphitheater, the grocery stores, the highway."

Recreation at Bellevue Country Club and public parks
The private Bellevue Country Club borders the neighborhood and has a challenging 18-hole golf course with rolling fairways. Founded in 1911, the club also has an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a kiddy pool and a fitness center. "It's a very historic country club, and one of the harder golf courses you'll find," Etoll says. "A lot of people in Winkworth belong to Bellevue." Several parks are also nearby. Among them is Burnet Park on Tipperary Hill, which has a pool, pickleball and basketball courts, playgrounds and trails. The park grounds are also home to the Rosamond Gifford Zoo, with hundreds of species of birds, mammals, amphibians and more on display.

Classic suburban styles on spacious, hilly lots
Some homes sit propped up on hills, while others sit at the end of cul-de-sacs or overlook the golf course. Bi-level, split-level and ranch-style homes from the mid-20th century are popular, as well as traditional and Cape Cod houses from the early 20th century. "It's very Middle America. You have first-time homebuyers, all the way up to families and retirees as well," says Chip Hodgkins, associate broker at Hunt Real Estate ERA. Properties typically sell for between $200,000 and $370,000.
