Neighborly community with top-tier schools near Tallahassee
Killearn Lakes is a master-planned community in northeast Tallahassee where winding roads lead through subdivisions shaded by thick, old-Florida tree canopies. Its top-tier schools and outdoor recreation, namely golfing, make this neighborhood a big appeal for families. "They have access to the elementary, middle and high school without leaving -- that's the main perk," says Jerry Scott, a Killearn Lakes resident of 20 years. "There are also a lot of parks, a lot of lakes, and it's on the outskirts of the city, so it has that natural Florida scenery." While the dense foliage has posed some issues with falling trees during hurricane season, that's when neighbors come together. "Anytime we have a hurricane, I always see people outside helping each other, checking on their neighbors to make sure they're not harmed in any way," Scott says." In the center of the community, Golden Eagle is a golf and country club where locals take a swing, and homes sit against the fairway. For work, school or play, downtown Tallahassee is about 15 miles away.
