Frenchtown
Renter-heavy neighborhood
Most residents in Frenchtown rent their homes, and residential construction happened in the mid-to-late 20th century. Transitional-modern Cape Cods, 1960s traditional-style houses, renovated cottages and new homes like 2000s colonials sit next to each other on small, paved streets. Some houses have paved driveways, while others have dirt or no driveway. On Dunn Street, a mobile home with a chain link fence sits right next to the neighborhood Deliverance Temple. Some lawns have overgrown bushes, eucalyptus plants and palm and oak trees. Prices range from $73,000 to $342,000.Tallahassee jazz club and local restaurants
Frenchtown has a Family Dollar and the nearby Fourth Avenue Supermarket, but no grocery store. A handful of local businesses exist within the neighborhood, including Economy Drugs, which has been in the community since the 1950s. Next door is a barber shop, and up the road is the Social Vegan, a plant-based eatery with painted images of fruits and vegetables in its colorful dining room. The small B Sharps Jazz is a neighborhood institution featuring live jazz performances, and Sweety Eaties makes fries, chicken wings and homemade candies. Target Grocery and Publix are about five minutes away by car.Tallahassee neighborhood parks
At Carter-Howell-Strong Park, locals walk on the paved pathway that loops around a lake. Lee Park has athletic fields and courts, and nearby Lincoln Center hosts an after-school program and activities for seniors. Its neighborhood medical center provides health care services to low-income, uninsured and underinsured people and an Early Head Start program provides services to kids between 6 weeks and 3 years of age.Historic community center and schools
Lincoln Center sits at the former site of Lincoln Academy, a school that opened during Reconstruction and closed in 1967. Nearby, the Lawrence Gregory Community Center runs an after-school program, basketball and volleyball leagues, and features a weight and exercise room and gym.Since it’s in Tallahassee, Frenchtown falls within the Leon County school district.
