North Tallahassee offers a proximal location near I-10 and downtown
Just outside of Florida’s capital, North Tallahassee residents enjoy cozy streets and exciting attractions, all in a prime location. “North Tallahassee is conveniently located to anywhere in Tallahassee," says Erik Seise, a Realtor with Bevis Realty, adding “really, it’s convenient to everything. You can be on the interstate in three minutes to get to Jacksonville or Pensacola.”
The community is “quaint and cute,” says Seise. Conveniently located North Tallahassee provides a plethora of amenities at home with quick access to all of Tallahassee and North Florida’s offerings.
A robust housing market with various styles
A variety of homes are along North Tallahassee's curved and hilly streets, including midcentury brick ranch-style homes with porticos — some featuring vinyl exterior — 1940s cottages shaded by towering pine trees and midcentury split-levels accented with elephant ear and parlor palm. According to Seise, residences are mostly "well-built older homes that are perfect starter homes," but buyers will also find a few Millennial models and brand-new homes with modern farmhouse accents such as awning windows. Most single-family homes range from $243,000 to $330,000 — although newer construction starts around $450,000 and can go as high as $600,000.
Leon County Schools earns high remarks on Niche
Students in North Tallahassee attend Sealey Elementary School, boasting a B-plus on Niche, while older students attend A-rated Leon High School. Recognized as Florida’s oldest continually accredited high school, Leon High was originally founded in 1871, and its current facility was built in 1936. The high school offers more than 25 Advanced Placement courses in fields such as computer science, physics, Latin and music theory. The girls’ volleyball team recently won two state championships, and the competitive cheer team ranked seventh nationally in 2017. Leon High School also boasts a robust performing arts program that features chorus, orchestra and theatre. The School of Arts and Sciences is a kindergarten through eighth-grade charter school boasting an A minus on Niche and rated the No. 2 charter school in Tallahassee.
Several public spaces offer indoor and outdoor recreation
After school, take the kids to Macon Community Park to climb on the shaded monkey bars or catch some air on the swing sets. The Macon Community Garden features small garden plots for neighbors to grow their own produce and develop a green thumb. Locals cool off on those hot Florida summer days at the public Trousdell Aquatics Center, featuring a 50-meter pool with 14 lanes, plus a water slide and play area for the kids. The center also offers a swim school alongside private swimming lessons. The adjacent Trousdell Gymnastics Center hosts recreational classes and competitive programs for all age groups, as well as dance classes.
Shopping along Monroe Street and the Centre of Tallahassee
There’s plenty of shopping and dining along Monroe Street, including fast-food joints and fast-casual restaurants. For a bite to eat, head over to Florida chain restaurant Canopy Road Café, serving classic American diner food with a twist. Stop by for brunch and try a signature pancake or Belgian malted waffle in this friendly and cozy country diner. With Publix just south in the Lake Ella Plaza shopping center, you won’t have to go too long without that Pub Sub fix. The centrally located Centre of Tallahassee hosts a handful of department stores and retailers, including Belk, Barnes & Noble and Guitar Center — but the big hit is the AMC Theatre. Head over on the weekend to catch the latest Hollywood blockbuster. For some outdoor thrill, take the kids to The Funstation, a family fun center featuring go-karts, minigolf, laser tag, batting cages and over 75 arcade games.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
