Moss-draped live oaks shade roads and homes
Dotted with multiple lakes and ponds, Northeast Tallahassee draws homebuyers with its outdoor recreation and natural beauty. Just 12 miles north of downtown, the neighborhood encompasses several newer planned subdivisions that feature a variety of contemporary homes situated on spacious lawns accented by sprawling moss-covered live oaks. “It’s convenient to everything. The northeast side of town has plenty of Starbucks, Publix and a bookstore within a short distance,” says Dawn Brackin-Moseley, a real estate agent with Keller Williams Town & Country Realty and a resident of Tallahassee-Crawfordville since 1989. “It’s peaceful with quiet neighborhoods.”

Large estate-style homes are scattered across the neighborhood
Home styles include brick ranch-style homes, colonial-style homes with gabled dormers, Millennial models with stucco exteriors and New Traditional homes with colonial stylings. Throughout the area, more traditional brick ranch-style homes from the 1970s, mid-century modern homes with asymmetrical designs and Millennial models on tightly packed streets are also seen. And peppered throughout Northeast Tallahassee are large estate-style homes on vast pine-dotted acreages, some with lakefront views. Most single-family homes range from $278,000 to $700,000 — although homes with larger floor plans and those with more land can surpass $1 million and occasionally $2 million. Regarding the market, Liz Kuntz, a Realtor with Keller Williams Town & Country Realty, says that there’s “a real low supply of inventory, so anything under $400,000 is gone quickly.”

Hikers, cyclists and kayakers enjoy Maclay Gardens State Park
“There are a lot of golf course communities in Northeast Tallahassee,” says Kuntz, adding that the “outdoor recreation, lakes, trails and parks” are a huge highlight for residents. In the Summerbrooke community kids climb on a shaded jungle gym at Summerbrooke Playground while golfers tee off at the semi-private Summerbrooke Golf Club. A 2-mile multi-use trail, the Northeast Park Trail just east of Thomasville Road, lets hikers, bikers and runners get in touch with nature. Maclay Gardens State Park is located just south of the neighborhood. “It’s a tourist spot because it has so many beautiful gardens of flowers,” says Brackin-Moseley, but locals enjoy it too. “It stays just busy enough, but it’s not too crowded. People have weddings there, and there’s a lake and picnic areas.”
