Old Town
Historic bungalows and ramblers
A dense canopy of towering oaks, Japanese maples and dogwoods blankets Old Town, which is known for its architecture. “It’s charming, quaint and eclectic,” says Jessica Lowe-Minor, a Realtor with Superior Realty Group with over six years of experience. “You can get a beautiful and rather large home on a good-sized lot.” The neighborhood is filled with Florida-style bungalows and cottages, ranch-style houses and brick colonials. Most were built in the early 1930s and ‘40s but can date to 1860. Prices range from the low-$200,000s for a two-bedroom to the low-$900.000s for a four-bedroom. Properties range on average from 1,300 square feet to 5,000 square feet. There are also a few multi-family options starting at $1 million. Screened-in front porches, stately white columns and detached carriage houses in many dwellings add to the unique architecture and southern charm. Some properties have fruit trees, rear garage parking and wrap-around porches. Lot sizes average around 8,000 square feet but can span more than a quarter acre. Housing availability is limited here, as there have been 14 for sale in the last year, though new construction occasionally pops up, selling well above the neighborhood average of $480,000. Residents are within walking and biking distance of the public school pipeline, churches and public transit.Top-rated restaurants within walking distance

The neighborhood’s Kool Beans Café made it onto Eater’s and Tallahassee Democrat’s top restaurant lists. A staple for over 25 years, the colorful, off-beat eatery is known for its English breakfasts, South American dishes and Asian-inspired seafood dishes. The Huntsman, also on Eater’s list, is in Old Town’s far southwest corner with hearty meals like antelope ham grilled cheese, beef tallow flatbread and a five-course meat tasting menu. Table 23 and Bella Bella, both in neighboring Midtown, also made it onto the 2024 top restaurant list in the Tallahassee Democrat. Table 23 is a casual restaurant for Southern staples like pimento cheese, gumbo and hush puppies. Bella Bella has been an institution for over 20 years, serving saucy pasts with a Floridan twist.
