South Tallahassee is home to numerous parks
Golfing, hiking, birding, and lots of ball fields for the kid—South Tallahassee appeals to those who enjoy the great outdoors. But this Tallahassee suburb also offers easy access to downtown and area universities. “South Tallahassee is a great location to be close to things. It’s not way out of the city, so it’s still a convenient commute to work or school,” says Liz Kuntz, a Realtor with Keller Williams Town & Country and a 24-year-resident of Tallahassee. “Plus it’s got great parks, the golf course is right there, and it’s near FAMU [Florida A&M].” With Florida A&M and other Tallahassee colleges and universities nearby, townhouses, condos and apartments cater to the student population present in the community.
The Robert White Williams Birding Trail was purchased by the city as a preservation effort.

Capital Park has playgrounds and baseball fields
Named after the first female African American Leon County commissioner, the Anita L. Davis Preserve at Lake Henrietta Park is a pleasant place for a nature stroll. Anglers and birdwatchers converge on Silver Lake Park, where the sharp-eyed might see bald eagles, turtles, armadillos and alligators. More than 150 species of birds have been identified along the Robert White Williams Birding Trail, which begins off Orange Avenue just north. Families stay busy at Capital Park, which has two playgrounds as well as two baseball diamonds outfitted for league play. On the National Register of Historic Places, the nine-hole Jake Gaither Golf Course opened in 1956 and provided African American residents a place to golf during a time when they were restricted from playing elsewhere.

The Classic Hobbit Burger comes with cheese, mayo and spicy mustard
Part of a Tallahassee mini-chain, the Hobbit American Grill serves wings, Philly cheese steaks and burgers. Beyond the Hobbit Burger and Hobbit Toast, the Lord of the Rings references are kept to a minimum and no second breakfasts are served. The North Florida Fair is the place to be in early November
Residents have easy access to the 100-acre North Florida Fairgrounds, which hosts events year-round. The biggest of these is the North Florida Fair, which lasts for eleven days in early November. The fair includes a carnival with rides, a petting zoo, and food, produce and artisanal vendors. Agricultural and livestock shows are also highlights. Another popular event is the holiday season Market Days, with more than 300 vendors selling arts and crafts.
