Rickards High School has an International Baccalaureate Program
Teachers at Bond Elementary have their own school webpage, which shares their contact information, their degrees, important documents and the occasional mission statement. Niche grades Bond a C-plus. The Facebook page for Nims Middle explains the school uniform requirements and is regularly updated with news about weather, closures and school and club deadlines. Nims earns a grade of C from Niche while Rickards High School earns a B-plus. Rickards has an International Baccalaureate program and is home to themed academies of study for food engineering and health sciences.

Capital Park has playgrounds and baseball fields
Named after the first female African American Leon County commissioner, the Anita L. Davis Preserve at Lake Henrietta Park is a pleasant place for a nature stroll. Anglers and birdwatchers converge on Silver Lake Park, where the sharp-eyed might see bald eagles, turtles, armadillos and alligators. More than 150 species of birds have been identified along the Robert White Williams Birding Trail, which begins off Orange Avenue just north. Families stay busy at Capital Park, which has two playgrounds as well as two baseball diamonds outfitted for league play. On the National Register of Historic Places, the nine-hole Jake Gaither Golf Course opened in 1956 and provided African American residents a place to golf during a time when they were restricted from playing elsewhere.

Part of a Tallahassee mini-chain, the Hobbit American Grill serves wings, Philly cheese steaks and burgers. Beyond the Hobbit Burger and Hobbit Toast, the Lord of the Rings references are kept to a minimum and no second breakfasts are served. Fast-food joints line Orange Avenue to the north, and residents can stop for groceries at Publix just south in Forest Village Shopping Center. Woodville Highway and Crawfordville Road funnel through South Tallahassee, becoming Monroe Street and Adams Street. “People can quickly hop into downtown for work or if they want to eat,” says Kuntz, “making South Tallahassee a great and convenient location.”

The North Florida Fair is the place to be in early November
Residents have easy access to the 100-acre North Florida Fairgrounds, which hosts events year-round. The biggest of these is the North Florida Fair, which lasts for eleven days in early November. The fair includes a carnival with rides, a petting zoo, and food, produce and artisanal vendors. Agricultural and livestock shows are also highlights. Another popular event is the holiday season Market Days, with more than 300 vendors selling arts and crafts. There is ample parking on-site, and with the exception of the North Florida Fair, fairground visitors will not be parking on neighborhood streets during events.
Star Metro buses link the neighborhood to points across the city
South Tallahassee is about 3 miles from downtown Tallahassee while Tallahassee International Airport is 5 miles west of the neighborhood. Star Metro buses run through the neighborhood. The Gulf Route connects the Jack Gaither Community Center with downtown while the Big Bend Route runs north-south through the center of South Tallahassee.
