Golfview
Multi-million-dollar mansions and Colonials
Golfview has a higher cost than other neighborhoods in South Tampa. The average home value sits around 1.9 million dollars, nearly five times as much as the average home value for the Tampa Metro Area, which is around $464,000. Mid-century ranch-style homes can cost between $740,000 and one million dollars. Towering Colonials will often go for between one and three million dollars. Expansive mansions and custom estates with views of the Palma Ceia Golf Course typically cost between four million and ten million dollars. “The area’s not all that large and has done a lot of growing, but it is expensive,” Randall says. “Anything on a smaller lot will surely be a multi-level home.” Green oak trees and well-kept yards fill the neighborhood alongside the sidewalks and narrow roadways. Driveways and multi-car garages are a staple with the majority of neighborhood homes.Highly rated schools a big draw to the neighborhood
Roosevelt Elementary School is graded an A-minus from Niche. Roosevelt Elementary is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and will be 100 years old in 2025. Coleman Middle School also earns an A-minus and has a top-ranked music program. Coleman is designated a School of Excellence by the state. Plant High School receives an A-plus grade from Niche and has a strong athletic program, winning recent cross country and girls’ volleyball championships. Plant High also offers academic societies, including the National Honor Society, Social Studies Honor Society, Science Honor Society and International Thespians. “It’s a preferred area for parents to send their kids for the schools and athletics,” Randall says.Decades of service at Wright’s Gourmet House
Dale Mabry Highway is a prominent business district on the western edge of Golfview. Since 1963, Wright’s Gourmet House has continued to serve creative sandwiches, desserts and salads. Customers offer high praise for the Monte Cristo and Cuban sandwiches. Graze South Tampa offers breakfast, brunch and a bar for happy hour. Patrons appreciate the sweet potato fries, chicken, and waffles, earning several positive reviews. The Terra Gaucha Brazilian Steakhouse has all-you-can-eat meats, a salad bar, and seafood, all served in a white tablecloth setting. Sprouts Farmers Market, Publix, Wild Fork and Trader Joe’s grocery stores are all within a 1-mile stretch on Dale Mabry Highway.Several amenities at Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club
Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club is a recreation highlight for Golfview. Founded in 1916, Palma Ceia is the oldest private golf club in Tampa and hosts one of the largest amateur golf tournaments in the country, the Gasparilla Invitational. In addition to the golf course, local members enjoy the Olympic-sized swimming pool, tennis courts and fitness centers. The nearest public park is Palma Ciea Park, a few blocks south of the golf course, which offers a more traditional park experience. “It’s a great place to take the kids to run around or take the dog on a walk,” says Lawrence Hollyfield, the communications coordinator with Tampa Parks and Recreation. “You’ll see people playing basketball there and just a good place to hang out.” Golfview is blocks away from Bayshore Boulevard, the longest continuous stretch of sidewalk in the world at four-and-a-half miles.Five miles from Downtown Tampa
Golfview offers several chances to leave the car at home, with several shopping and dining options within talking distance. Downtown Tampa is about 5 miles away, led by major roadways West Kennedy Boulevard and Bayshore Drive. Interstate 275 creates direct routes to nearby Clearwater, St. Petersburg and Lakeland. HCA Florida South Tampa Hospital is the nearest medical facility, about 1 mile away. Tampa International Airport is about 4 miles northwest of the neighborhood.Locals host Front Porch Parties in the fall
The Golfview Neighborhood Association brings residents together regularly, including the Fall Festival held at Jean Circle Park in October 2023. They also hold what they call Front Porch Parties in the fall, with different residents stepping up to host.
