One of the oldest Tampa suburbs
Tampa Heights is one of Tampa’s oldest suburbs and remains a highly desirable living destination. It attracts residents with its urban village vibe and distinct historical character. The neighborhood sits north of downtown and above the flood zone. “We’re just close to everything and there’s a high walkability factor,” says Justin Ricke, a principal agent at Compass Florida and 14-year resident of Tampa Heights. “I can walk to Ybor City, I can walk to downtown, and I can walk to the river.” Residents enjoy the liveliness of Tampa through the abundance of restaurants at Armature Works and weekly city events. Several murals circulate the neighborhood and showcase artisans' crafts. Additionally, community engagement is prominent through the neighborhood association.

Find unique cuisine at Armature Works
Foodies flock to the neighborhood’s Armature Works, a gourmet food court experience in a unique historical setting. It offers everything from full-service dining to gourmet grab-and-go within many cuisine types. It’s also home to Michelin-recommended restaurants, including Steelbach and Oak & Ola. Café Hey and Elevation Coffee are ideal spots to grab the morning cup of joe with a breakfast sandwich. Shuffle is a fun spot for nightlife and bar food. Play a game of shuffleboard or sing some karaoke while the DJ plays until midnight. Get those groceries done at Sprouts Farmers Market. Other shopping essentials can be grabbed two miles outside the area at Walmart Supercenter.

Neighborhood porch parties and Armature Works events
It’s common for neighbors to engage with one another through front porch parties and civic association meetings. “People in this neighborhood know each other and are involved with each other. I know the owners of the small businesses, and I see my neighbors out walking their dogs,” Ricke says. “We’ve got the perfect balance of a tight community and city feel.” Tampa Heights residents also have the luxury of being close to Tampa’s best events and celebrations. Exotic car lovers can see the hottest rides of Tampa at the Rides by the River at the Armature Works. Folks gather for the turn of the season at the Height’s District Annual Fall Fest. Armature Works hosts the two-weekend event in October, featuring fun family activities like bouncy houses, live entertainment, and a petting zoo. Downtown holds several museums, such as the Glazer Children’s Museum, Tampa Firefighters Museum, and the Tampa Museum of Art.

Early 20th century bungalows and modern new constructions
A lot of the houses are older, built before the 1950s. These tend to be more cottage-style or bungalow homes with hints of two stories. These two-to-three-bedroom homes are priced between $250,000 and $850,000. Within the historic district area are pockets of 20th-century Victorians and Queen Annes. Newly constructed townhouses are single-family and take inspiration from modern architecture with flat roofing. These can range from $600,000 to over $1.3 million. “Tampa Heights is experiencing an inventory shortage, with a multiple-offer market that is one of the strongest in Tampa Bay,” Ricke says.

Tampa Heights Magnet Elementary is a historic Title 1 magnet school. “Parents love that school,” Ricke says. “I personally know lots of people who sent their kids there, and now they are going to Harvard.” The C-plus school hosts Cultural Connections Clusters twice a year, which allows community leaders to provide cultural lessons to students. Middle school years can be done at Stewart Middle Magnet School, which has a B on Niche. Their Future Farmers of America chapter was a 3-star national chapter in 2022. Howard W. Blake High School holds a B on Niche. This school offers 14 arts programs for students to audition.

Water Works Park to cool off and explore Tampa Riverwalk
There are a couple of options to walk around for some green areas. Robles Park carries a walking trail that surrounds a pond. Kiddos can also run away in the playground area or the open fields. Plymouth Playground offers similar amenities, but neighbors can also get together for a pickup game on the basketball courts. Water Works Park is a spot to cool off from those hot Tampa days within the splash pad area. Have a family picnic on the tables or let the dog run wild within the dog park area. Tampa Riverwalk is an ideal spot for a morning or afternoon jog with river views.
