Thrilling theme parks right in the neighborhood
Terrace Park is where tourists come for the thrilling rides and animal safaris at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay and the water amusements at Adventure Island. For residents, Terrace Park is a sleepy North Tampa suburb of apartment buildings and ranch-style homes with the sights and sounds of rollercoasters practically in their backyards. Its development was spurred by the opening of the theme parks and the adjacent University of South Florida (USF) campus in the late 1950s. Also nearby is the Moffitt Cancer Center, which counts multiple treatment facilities. "The Moffitt Cancer Center is a really well-known treatment center; lots of residents work there and at the USF campus," says Lorynn Gavin, a broker with Out Fast Realty and a longtime Tampa resident.
A mix of renters and owners in Terrace Park
Approximately 68% of residents in Terrace Park are renters living in small apartment complexes or single-family houses. Established Florida ranch-style homes dot the streets, with a handful of split-level and contemporary houses mixed in. Yards tend to be on the larger side, with tall, mature trees. Some streets feature sidewalks. Single-family houses typically range from $325,000 to $425,000. Townhouses are priced from around $150,000 to $260,000, and some townhouse complexes feature amenities like community clubhouses. Flooding can be an issue in the general Tampa region but the city has invested millions of dollars into preventative measures to mitigate damage from storm surges.
Walk to Busch Gardens, Adventure Island and USF
One of Terrace Park's main attractions is having Busch Gardens Tampa right in the neighborhood. "My children took full advantage of the annual passes when we lived there," says Jeff Curtis, broker and owner of Curtis Real Estate Services and a former Terrace Park resident. "The park was within walking distance, so my kids would go after school." Wildlife performances and exotic animal habitats are spread throughout the park, along with spine-tingling rollercoasters. Across the street, Adventure Island Water Park is a big draw, especially on scorching summer days, with lazy rivers and waterslides. Noise from the theme parks is audible in some parts of the neighborhood, and there can be traffic, but it is mainly confined to the less-residential side, along 40th Street. Other places of interest include the Museum of Science and Industry, which has a planetarium and NASA-sponsored Moonbase simulation, and the USF Botanical Garden on the university campus.
Takomah Trail Park is a neighborhood green space
There's more to the neighborhood than just theme parks. The Takomah Trail Park has gazebos and docks overlooking a pond and trails winding through wetland forest. The Terrace Park Neighborhood Association organizes clean-ups and other community events at the park. There's also the Greco Softball Complex, featuring four lighted softball fields where several local tournaments are held throughout the year.
Plenty on tap at the Yuengling Brewing Company
Most shopping and dining options are along Fowler Avenue, 56th Street and Busch Boulevard--along the neighborhood's perimeter. They include Middle Eastern and African restaurants like Queen of Sheba, with Ethiopian fare, and Petra Middle Eastern Cuisine. Terrace Park is also home to the Tampa campus of the Yuengling Brewing Company, which features a taproom, restaurant and live music. There are two Publix-anchored shopping centers in the neighborhood.
High marks for King High School
Public school students are served by the Hillsborough School District. Temple Terrace Elementary and Greco Middle have C-ratings on Niche. King High School, rated A-minus on Niche, is an International Baccalaureate school with one of the country's highest rates of IB degree recipients. Residents also have options for private and charter schools in the neighborhood, such as Woodmont Charter and Village of Excellence Academy Middle.
Downtown Tampa is nearby via I-275
The University of South Florida is within walking distance, just across Fowler Avenue. Residents have easy access to freeways, including Interstate 275, and Downtown Tampa is 9 miles south of Terrace Park.

Literally da hood bro they be shooting and people get arrested for drug dealing, not very safe, especially in southern terrace park, closer to Busch. I got robbed 3 times and not many homeowners plus a lot of renters.
