Elliotts Corner offers seclusion in the city
A scenic neighborhood on the far east side of Taunton, Elliotts Corner is about 40 miles south of Boston. “You’re still in a great city like Taunton, but you’re in the country part,” says Realtor Blake Starratt with Re/Max Legacy, who has sold many homes in the area. While the city center offers local shops and restaurants in historic buildings, Elliotts Corner is more secluded. Here, things start to spread out: Homes sit on spacious lots, small streams flow through some backyards and the sprawling Massasoit State Park lies within the neighborhood. But it’s still a short drive to everyday amenities, including a train station with routes to Massachusetts' capital. “You can get into the city in 5 minutes or go into nature in 5 minutes,” Starratt says.
Outdoor time at Massasoit State Park
Located in Elliotts Corner, Massasoit State Park stretches across 1,200 acres, with trails weaving through cranberry bogs and hardwood forests, and visitors can hike, mountain bike or take their dog on a walk. “They even allow horses,” Starratt says. There’s also a campground, a playground and a small beach at the park, as well as Lake Rico, which has spots to fish and a ramp for nonmotorized boats. Golf courses sit just east of the neighborhood, including the private LeBaron Hills Country Club, which offers its members an 18-hole course, a practice facility, a pro shop and an upscale restaurant. It's also a popular event venue in the area. Nearby Poquoy Brook Golf Club has an 18-hole public course, as well as a practice range, a putting green and a short-game area.
Homes from the 1970s and ‘80s on tree-lined streets
Most homes in Elliotts Corner sit on curving two-lane roads. With mature trees and dense brush lining roadsides, the neighborhood feels more secluded than other parts of Taunton. “People like that you get bigger lots and more space,” Starratt says. 1978 is the median year when homes were built, and potential buyers will mainly find ranch-style homes, Cape Cods and Colonial Revivals. Prices can range from $280,000 to $760,000, depending on the size, age and condition. Condos are also available and can cost $260,000 to $320,000.
Students can attend Taunton Public Schools
The neighborhood is zoned for the Taunton Public Schools district. East Taunton Elementary gets a B from Niche, Joseph H. Martin Middle gets a C-plus, and Taunton High gets a B. The high school offers Advanced Placement classes, dual enrollment, and career- and technical-education courses.
Shopping and dining in downtown Taunton
While the neighborhood doesn’t have a commercial presence, it’s a 6-mile drive to the center of Taunton, where there are shopping and dining options. Locals can grab breakfast or lunch from Joe’s Diner, an old-school spot where everything from pancakes and omelets to sandwiches and burgers is on the menu. Housed in a green brick building on the Taunton River, Riverhouse serves seafood, pasta platters and more. The restaurant has outdoor dining and live music on the patio when the weather is warm. There are also flower shops, thrift stores and clothing retailers around the city center. Locals will find various grocery stores throughout Taunton, including Trucchi’s Supermarket, Shaw’s and ALDI. In case of emergency, Morton Hospital is about 7 miles west.
40 miles from Boston and Providence
U.S. Interstate 495 is east of the community and connects with major roadways that can lead 40 miles north to Boston or 40 miles west to Providence. Locals can also reach the Massachusetts capital by catching a train at the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority’s East Taunton station, about 5 miles away. The train leads to the city on the Fall River/New Bedford line, and Taunton is its last stop. Boston Logan International Airport is about 43 miles north, and Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport is about 50 miles southwest.
