A former manufacturing site along the Taunton River
When the manufacturing industry was at its height, Weir Village’s waterfront location made it a delivery site for commercial ships and barges sailing along the Taunton River. Now, those factories are being repurposed or torn down as the city tries to energize the neighborhood. “They call this area The Weir,” says Debbie Edwards, a real estate agent with Jack Conway & Co. “It’s right along the river, so it still feels rural even though it’s Taunton.” In 2023, Taunton Mayor Shaunna O'Connell announced plans to update one of the neighborhood’s parks and parking lots. Weir Village has a CAP Index crime score of 4 out of 10, on par with the national average of 4.

From historic homes to new construction
Surrounded by forested land, properties are more spaced out than in the city’s center. Some have backyards large enough for a pool. Single-family homes typically range from $375,000 to $650,000, with the occasional home going as low as $198,000 and as high as $780,000. The most common styles are Colonials, raised ranch and ranch-styles built between the 1970s and late 1990s. There is also some new construction, as well as historic homes from the 1700s. This style is in line with Taunton’s past as a city of industry. “There is still some manufacturing, but a lot of the buildings are empty,” Edwards says. “You can see what the past would have felt back when the textile industry was big,” Cohannet Mill No. 3 is a mill on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places that has turned into loft-style apartments. Weir Village has many townhouses and condos that range in price from $188,000 to $519,000. The neighborhood’s multi-family houses start at $510,000 and cap out at $739,000.

New England Patriots playground at Weir Riverfront Park
In a partnership with The New England Patriots Charitable Foundation, Weir Riverfront Park received new playground equipment donning the football team’s logo in 2018. Hall of Fame and current Patriot players cut the ribbon at the reopening ceremony. Five years later, the park added a boat ramp and the Taunton Splash Park, where children up to 12 can play in 24 different spray zones. The green space is also the site of The Taunton River Festival, an annual event with live music and food that benefits the Taunton River Watershed Alliance. Walker Park is currently undergoing renovations that include a new walking path and gazebo. Funcity Adventure Park is an indoor recreation option with trampolines and an arcade. The neighborhood also has the Grand Slam Hitting Club. "A lot of the older textile buildings are being re-vitalized and repurposed into things like batting cages,” Edwards says.
The Weir Riverfront Park is a newly built public park area funded by the New England Patriots.

Route 24 and Interstate 93
Weir Village is a mostly car-dependent neighborhood. Boston is a little over an hour away, depending on traffic — which is often heavy. The drive to the state capitol is about 40 miles away on Route 24 and Interstate 93. Taunton residents will soon have access to a commuter rail. Planned to begin by spring 2025, the South Coast rail project will connect Boston to Taunton by extending the Middleborough/Lakeville line to an East Taunton station. Greater Attleboro and Taunton Regional Transit Authority buses stop throughout the neighborhood, including Target and Taunton High. Taunton’s airport isn’t open for commercial use, but the Boston Logan International Airport is about an hour away.
