Taylor is surrounded by state game land and is removed from large urban centers, though residents can reach State College and Altoona, 26 miles away, using the surrounding roadways and interstates. “It’s a rural area,” says Steve Carper, the operating partner and partial owner of the local wedding venue, Marraras Mountain Lodge. “You are close to State College. State College is where people in Central Pennsylvania want to live around.” Groceries and other essentials can be found in Tyrone, 10 miles away. Important to know
Nine white turbines stand tall near the edge of town, part of the Sandy Ridge Wind Farm operation by Liberty Power. These turbines, along with other wind farms in Centre County, help power 15,000 homes, and Liberty Power plans to expand the operation. The wind farm is quiet and not near any residences, so noise is not a concern.
