A residential boulevard bordered by shopping centers
Terre Haute's mile-long historic district, Ohio Boulevard, is a neighborhood of utility. On the one hand, the area's namesake thoroughfare provides a taste of suburban comfort. "It's a phenomenal area for walkers," says Kelsey Rich, Managing Owner and Broker at the Real Estate Connection, "There's a beautiful median and older homes with charm." A few blocks south, the neighborhood turns commercial: corporate offices, hardware stores, markets and casual restaurants. Residents are the benefactors as goods, services, and dining are blocks rather than miles away from home. Entertainment is relatively close, too, with Deming Park's 175 acres of green space and Indiana State University's arts and athletics with a 2-mile drive. "It's the place to be," says Rich, "Terre Haute's definitely a growing community."
Decades-old ranch-style houses and numbered side streets
Most neighborhood homes were built between the 1930s and '70s. Single-family ranch-style houses are the most common, but Rich says homebuyers can find other architectural styles. Lots tend to be over a quarter-acre, and single-car attached garages are standard. Rich says traffic tends to move fast along the boulevard, but sidewalks ensure pedestrian safety. Homes along the boulevard tend to sell from the high $200,000s and to upwards of $600,000, whereas properties on side streets are often a bit cheaper. They sell for under $200,000 and sometimes for less than $150,000. Majestic Care of Deming Park, a nursing home that provides both short-term and long-term care, is also in the neighborhood.

Groceries at Baelser's Market and a growing Downtown restaurant scene
Known for its locally sourced produce, Baelser's Market is the go-to for grocery runs within the neighborhood. Just next door, the Sycamore Ace Hardware has supplies for DIY home projects, and fast-casual eateries like MCL Restaurant & Bakery Meadows and Royal Mandarin Express can be found within the same plaza. Farther north along Wabash Avenue, groceries are available at Kroger as is brisket from Rick's Smokehouse & Grill. According to Rich, there's also an emerging restaurant scene in Downtown Terre Haute. "I definitely think Bar Bosco is worth mentioning. It's truly a unique experience in dining," she says. Craft cocktails are served alongside old-school Italian pastas, and walls are adorned with oil paintings.
Baesler's Market is a popular local grocery market with a great community feeling.

Indiana State University athletics and a brand-new casino
Ohio Boulevard's proximity to Indiana State University means fall football games at Memorial Stadium—tickets are $15—and musical performances at the Hulman Center. There's also Crossroads Repertory Theatre, known for its summer series. "ISU has a homecoming parade in October, and that's a big deal for the community," adds Coldwell Banker's Debbie Hill. Rich highlights Downtown attractions like the Terre Haute Children's Museum, which has a popular waterworks exhibit and an indoor ropes course. The city also welcomed a new casino resort in 2024; there are onsite restaurants and bars and 36 live table games.
Stables Steakhouse offers a fine dining experience with a beautiful bar as well.

Athletic courts, fishing and train rides in Deming Park
Deming Park sits at the end of Ohio Boulevard, home to soccer fields, basketball and tennis courts, a public swimming pool and a popular 18-hole disc golf course. A miniature train, "The Spirit of Terre Haute," also carries families throughout the park in the summer and early fall. At Christmas in the Park, kids can ride the train and visit with Santa. Twinkle lights illuminate picnic shelters after the sun sets. According to Kylie Smith, the Assistant Superintendent of the city's Parks Department, Deming Park's various ponds are also popular fishing destinations, and locals can enroll in classes at the onsite pottery studio.
You can visit the Terre Haute farmer's market on Saturdays to find locally produced goods.
In Deming Park you'll find playgrounds, basketball courts, a pond, artwork and holly arboretum.

City buses, Interstate 70 and Union Hospital
Terre Haute's city bus line connects to popular destinations like the Honey Creek Mall, the Park Place Apartments and ISU's main campus. Most residents, however, rely on their cars, driving just under 3 miles—about 8 minutes—along Ohio Boulevard to reach Downtown. Interstate 70, meanwhile, connects the neighborhood to Indianapolis, approximately 75 miles east; there are over 40 direct flight options from Indianapolis International Airport. For medical care, residents visit Union Hospital, a major employer in Terre Haute that offers primary care and emergency services.
