Cozy, wooded neighborhood in growing Texas suburb

Westwood is a cozy, wooded suburban neighborhood in the rapidly growing Montgomery County, ranked seventh nationally in growth amongst U.S. counties. The growth is due largely to the movement of major corporations like ExxonMobil into the county, and the SH 249 Toll Way has been added to accommodate this growing populace. Here, residents find Texas-sized prototypical suburban housing, largely brick new traditional homes tucked away on scenic wooded lots. Families reap the benefits of a strong school system and ample park space, and the area is seeing more and more commercial development due to the county's growth. The wooded nature of the neighborhood lends itself to a unique charm not always found in a Texas suburb: "This area really reminds me of New England given the lot sizes and layout of the neighborhood," says Clay Robinson, a native Houstonian and Realtor. "Of course, you won't get any subzero winters here. It's still Houston."

Texas-sized single-family homes

Single-family new traditional housing is king in Westwood, though the homes don't have the cookie-cutter uniformity typically associated with suburbia, and most houses were built in the 21st century. The homes tend to have two stories and are covered in some combination of limestone, vinyl siding and brick, but no two homes look alike, each giving the style its own unique spin. Lot sizes here are large, at least a quarter of an acre, but plenty of properties sit on half an acre or more. Due to this, houses typically sit on sizeable, neatly mowed front lawns, often with driveways leading into front-facing garages. Lots are fairly wooded, with longleaf pines lining uncurbed streets, giving the neighborhood a laidback and welcoming feel. Prices here typically fall between $300,000, which might get a buyer a ranch-style home or bungalow, and $600,000, which could buy a sprawling luxury new build. The median overall price is $425,000.
