Golfers come from all around Thibodaux to shoot nine holes at Bayou Country Club’s public course. But folks who live in the area enjoy more than just fairway views. While the name might make it sound like an exclusive area, the Bayou Country Club is the only private part of the Louisiana neighborhood. The Bayou Lafourche waterway skims the eastern edge, inviting residents to launch a boat or cast a line for redfish. Nicholls State University, just a mile away, specializes in nursing, business administration and interdisciplinary studies. Residents are within 3 miles of downtown Thibodaux and enjoy close proximity to the only public golf course in town. “There are a lot of pine trees and old oak trees, and it’s more desirable being on the south side of Thibodaux because you have proximity to Highway 90," says Cade Harris, broker and owner of CHT Group Real Estate.

Teeing off at Bayou Country Club
The Bayou Country Club golf course spills across the southwestern portion of the neighborhood, affording views of the green from several residential streets. The nine-hole course and onsite restaurant are open to the public, but the swimming pool and tennis courts are members-only. The interactive exhibits at nearby Bayou Country Children’s Museum highlight local culture with a duck blind, a floor piano and a real John Deere tractor. Across LA-1, the floating dock at Donnat Chene Pier is a good spot to launch a kayak or paddle boat on Bayou Lafourche.

Brick ranch-style homes surrounding the golf course
A drive down Country Club Boulevard leads to a latticework of residential streets, where Cape Cod and ranch-style houses feature russet brick and ivory stone, offset by shutters and siding painted black and neutral shades. Many ranch homes have low hipped roofs and attached garages. Lot sizes, with neat lawns and paved driveways, measure about a quarter acre on average. Buyers can expect to pay between $300,000 and $400,000 for a four-bedroom ranch house and $500,000 to $700,000 for a brick Cape Cod with golf course views.

Flood risk in the Bayou Region
Bayou Country Club is in Thibodaux, the seat of Lafourche Parish, making it part of Louisiana’s Bayou Region, which is known for its swampy, slow-moving waterways. The flood risk isn’t as high here as in some surrounding neighborhoods, but homeowners might want to consider flood insurance.
