Between miles of open space and farmland and the sprawling suburbs of Thornton, Skylake Ranch is a walkable residential pocket within 2 miles of popular parks and convenient shopping centers. “In Skylake Ranch, you get high-quality homes and easy access to Downtown Denver, Northern Colorado and Front Range recreation to the west,” says Jessica Hernandez, a local real estate agent with Right Choice Realty LLC. “Compared to nearby communities like Northglenn and Westminster, you’ll find more interior amenities and newer homes in Thornton.”

Walkable streets and modern architecture

Most of the houses in Skylake Ranch were built between 1996 and 2005, with modern traditional and ranch-style homes lining the streets. Homes sit close together on 4,000 to 10,000-square-foot lots dotted with oak and aspen trees. The lanes are lined with well-maintained sidewalks and homes have fenced-in back yards and attached two to three-car garages. Prices range from $490,000 to $650,000. The neighborhood has paved walkways connecting its parks and green spaces, including a community garden.

Innovative learning spaces and extracurriculars at Shadow Ridge Middle School

Glacier Peak Elementary School lies just north of the neighborhood and earns a B-minus overall grade from Niche. Also with a B-minus grade, Shadow Ridge Middle School is a short drive north and has an array of extracurricular offerings, from sewing club to intramural softball. Thornton High School receives a C-plus rating and offers career and technical education programs in business and marketing, computer and digital technologies and family and consumer sciences. Thornton High is also an International Baccalaureate World School. The Anythink Wright Farms library is an innovative learning space with a computer lab, an art studio and an outdoor workspace. The library hosts a variety of programs each week, from Dungeons & Dragons workshops and story times to book clubs and guided meditations.

Sports facilities and golf courses near Skylake Ranch

Skylake Ranch Park is home to a playground, open field space and facilities for basketball and sand volleyball. Around 2 miles west, the 150-acre Carpenter Park offers walking trails, sports facilities, a large playground and splash pad and an amphitheater that hosts summer concerts, holiday celebrations and adult fitness classes. Visitors can also rent paddleboats to take out on the park’s lake or cast a line from the shore. The Carpenter Recreation Center has exercise studios, an indoor pool, a fitness center and an indoor track. “You’re also close to some fantastic golf courses in Skylake Ranch,” says Hernandez. The Riverdale Golf Club has two 18-hole courses, with verdant fairways lined with evergreens and ponds.

Local eateries at Mission Trace North

East 120th Avenue sits just north of Skylake Ranch and can take residents around a mile west to the Mission Trace North Shopping Center. Ca Phe serves Vietnamese coffee and bahn mi and, around the corner, Las Palmas offers classic Mexican fare. Kains Silver Bullet Saloon is across the street and serves American pub fare alongside draft beer and cocktails that can be enjoyed alongside a game of pool. Mission Trace North is home to King Soopers, and Walmart is about 3 miles northeast.

Thornton interstate access and nearby bus stops

Interstate 25 is around 5 miles west of the neighborhood and spans around 55 miles north to Fort Collins and roughly 85 miles south to Colorado Springs. Interstate 70 spans around 30 miles west to the hiking trails and skiing hot spots of the Rocky Mountains. The Regional Transportation District operates the area’s bus system, with a handful of nearby stops on 120th Avenue.
