The 120th Avenue also connects Woodglen to Denver via its exit to Interstate 25. About 20 miles east, the Denver International Airport provides flights to over 200 destinations worldwide.

Cherry Park also has ballfields, a playground and a paved path. Nearby, Carpenter Park is home to the Margaret W. Carpenter Recreation Center—or “Carpenter Recreation Center”—along with sports facilities varying from basketball courts to light-equipped tennis courts. Paved trails loop in and around the park, ranging from less than a mile to about 2 miles total. Carpenter Park’s center bustles with activity during the summer, when some of its most popular attractions open, including the carousel and splash pad. The paddle boat and canoe rental facilities are also open in summer, granting access to the fishing pond.

Celebrating the Thornton community in festival form
Carpenter Park’s Harley Brown Amphitheater hosts annual events, such as Thorntonfest. This festival includes a car show, music acts and activities varying from canine frisbee competitions to skill challenges in the skate park. The event is held on the first Saturday in June with food trucks and craft booths.
Many events occur at Carpenter Park, including the city festival Thorntonfest in June and the Fuel & Fury Car Show in September.

Thornton Plaza is a strip mall at the intersection of 120th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard, with fast-food restaurants and a Big R Stores. Across the avenue, Mission Trace shopping center has a King Soopers and various locally owned restaurants, such as Las Palmas Mexican Restaurant. In the same shopping center, the JNJ Comic Books and Games has a store in the front and a back room with game tables. “We're a family owned comic bookstore that also sells games, toys and supplies,” Pierce says. “We've lived in this community for 25 years and always felt that a store like ours would help the community come together.” Nearby, the family owned Anthony’s II has served Italian food for over 45 years. The restaurant offers delivery between 144th Avenue and Thornton Parkway, counter service-style dine-in and carryout.
