Downtown Tigard
Midcentury modern homes and seventies ranch styles
The residential streets of downtown are mostly lined with split-level and traditional ranch-style homes built between the 1960s and 1970s, as well as a few sleek black-and-white midcentury modern builds. Properties cost between $575,000 and $675,000, with lots large enough to accommodate recreational vehicle parking and other outdoor hobbies. Occasional new traditional homes with Craftsman features and tuck-under garages from the early 2000s fetch between $750,000 and $850,000. Though many of the neighborhood’s residential streets lack sidewalks, the Fanno Creek Trail—which weaves from one end of Downtown Tigard to the other—connects homes directly to Main Street.Laid-back, local breweries and Mexican restaurants
Breweries and restaurants line Main Street, like Tigardville Station, which hosts classic rock and blues bands as well as tap and salsa dance lessons in the area’s oldest building. Cooper Mountain Ale Works focuses on all things local, serving beers brewed in Tigard and Sherwood, locally sourced wines and casual, German-inspired pub fare. “They have live music, outdoor seating and plenty of parking. They have their own parking lot in the back, so you don’t have to worry about parking on the street.” Hutchinson says. “It’s just street parking [in downtown], so having a private lot is a bonus.” Sanchez Taqueria y Panaderia and Taco Del Sol are popular choices for Mexican cuisine with casual counter service and an extensive offering of fresh pastries at the former. For groceries and other essentials, there’s a Natural Grocers and H Mart, an Asian supermarket. The Tigard Farmers Market is held in the neighborhood every Sunday morning from May through October, providing opportunities for local farmers, florists and musicians.Quirky statue keeps watch over Tigard Skate Park
The neighborhood’s largest green space, Fanno Creek Park, stretches over 30 acres of the Fanno Creek floodplain, its trails supplemented by boardwalks and bridges. The Fanno Creek Trail snakes alongside the creek, providing around 10 entrance points to the park throughout the neighborhood. The section of the trail that runs through Fanno Creek Park is only part of a larger system that spans more than 10 miles from Beaverton, in the north, to Tualatin in the south. In the north of the neighborhood, the Tigard Skate Park is a concrete landscape with a volcano butte, as well as several valleys and inclines. A quirky statue of a lizard-like creature emerges from the top of one of the park’s ramps, with its watchful eyes on the park’s skaters.Advanced engineering and design program at Tigard High
Children who live north of the TriMet commuter rail tracks may attend Durham Elementary School, which earns a B-plus grade from Niche. Otherwise, students living downtown may begin their public education at the B-rated James Templeton Elementary School before moving forward to Twality Middle School, which earns an A-minus. Tigard High School, which receives a B-plus, offers both International Baccalaureate (IB) Diplomas and individual IB course certificates. The high school also maintains an advanced engineering and design program, equipped with 3D printers, laser cutters and metrology tools.Pacific Highway passes downtown on its way to Portland
Pacific Highway defines the west side of the neighborhood, and Main Street veers off the main thoroughfare, with many of the businesses and restaurants that make up Downtown Tigard. Pacific Highway continues northeast toward downtown Portland, which is a little over 10 miles away. TriMet’s Westside Express Service (WES) Commuter Rail picks passengers up at the Tigard Transit Center and takes them north to Beaverton. There are other TriMet buses that stop at the transit center as well, connecting the neighborhood to downtown Portland, Lake Oswego, Oregon City and other nearby communities.
