Walkable suburb less than 2 miles from Downtown Trenton
The namesake thoroughfares of Greenwood & Hamilton run in parallel, east and west through the neighborhood, forming a kind of backbone. This is a small suburb whose primary features include Assunpink Creek — crossable by State Street — and Trenton Central High. North-south passages like Chestnut Street reflect the boom years around 1850 to 1915 when this area was developed. Victorian homes with ornate details and pastel colors are splashed along sidewalks hugged by cars. It’s not the typical image of suburbia, but the neighborhood hasn’t peaked just yet. "This area is ripe for redevelopment,” says Fareeda Stokes, a Realtor with Harkes Realty & Associates. Plus, it’s less than 2 miles from Downtown Trenton, which is in the middle of its own changes. “These surrounding neighborhoods are trying to revitalize and improve upon past perceptions of Trenton,” says Rana Bernhard, a Realtor with Weichert Realtors.
Detached and semi-detached homes in Greenwood & Hamilton
“Properties are mostly being bought by investors," Stokes says. While many homes here need some attention, there are plenty of move-in properties available, too. As a rule, homebuyers can expect to see that homes lack a front yard and are instead bolstered by a sidewalk that gives a communal feel to the area. Occasionally there will be thin strips of grass and small hedges. More frequently, though, tall shade trees are planted along the way. The detached single-family homes reflect the late 18th-century and early 19th-century heritage of this neighborhood. These will be painted in soft colors like mint green and have period details like covered front porches or attic windows. Semi-detached brick homes can bring four bedrooms and attic space as well. Prices range from $155,000 to $300,000. Greenwood & Hamilton has a CAP Index crime score of 7 out of 10, higher than the national average of 4. Robbery scores high, as do other violent crimes. Trenton's police force hired additional officers in early 2024 and increased events for residents including summer camps, recreation programs and food assistance.

Every spring, the garden’s land is tilled by horses from the Hopewell Living History Farm. In between these two gardens is Jefferson Vincent Park, which has a playground, basketball courts and open lawns.
