West End is a tiny neighborhood in Trenton just blocks from the Delaware River that offers its residents a convenient lifestyle thanks to its location just minutes away from major highways. These highways allow residents to reach nearby epicenters like the Trenton-Mercer Airport and The College of New Jersey, which are both less than 5 miles away. “There’s also access to the bus and shopping,” says Jennifer Legore, a sales associate at Coldwell Banker Princeton Junction. “I think it’s just the lifestyle. You’re so close to areas like Princeton.” And although West End is an urban neighborhood, Legore says there’s a sense of community there. “I think it’s a very, very close-knit neighborhood,” Legore says. “It’s very family-oriented.”

West End’s grid-like streets are lined with a mixture of row houses as well as detached single-family and two-family homes. Most of these homes are built in traditional colonial styles with dormers, but the homes along West State Road are often Victorian or Tudor-style homes instead. There are also a handful of condominiums in the neighborhood. Because of this variety, Legore says that home prices in West End range from around $150,000 to $600,000. “I think there’s basically something for everyone, it just depends on what you’re looking for.,” Legore says. Very low inventory in West End, however, has led to high competition for the homes that make it on the market. “As soon as something hits the market, as long as it’s in decent shape, it’s gone,” Legore says. “Inventory doesn’t stay on the market very long.”

The neighborhood is served by the Trenton Public School District. Children in the neighborhood attend schools like Cadwalader School, which features a beautiful mural on its exterior, and Daylight/Twilight Alternative High School. This school serves students from sixth to 12th grade and has a C-minus on Niche.

Residents often head to Edgewood Avenue Playground to let children burn off some energy on the play equipment, challenge friends to a game of basketball, walk their dog or explore the D&R Canal State Park Trail. This trail connects to the park and leads all the way to Downtown Trenton. The West End Little League is also located behind the Edgewood Playground. When they want a bigger park, they head just a few blocks outside of the neighborhood to Cadwalader Park, which offers a playground, hiking trails, sports areas, and picnic and barbeque spots.

West End is largely residential, but locals can swing by Valerio and Jimenez Deli-Grocery or Fast & Fresh Grocery & Grill for essentials. For bigger grocery trips, they travel just a mile away to Super Food Supermarket. When they’re hungry, they often grab a meal at Fong Wah Chinese. “All your needs can be met in a matter of minutes,” Legore says. West End’s location in Trenton also means that it benefits from a lot of Trenton’s yearly events. “Every summer there are free or low-price concerts that you can attend for $8 admission, which is very cheap for the talent that they bring,” Legore says. “You can do boat rides down the Delaware or you can do paddle boating. So there are a lot of things there to enjoy. There’s always something going on.” For many people, West End’s balance of quiet residential streets and convenience to everything that Trenton has to offer makes it a great place to call home.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students.
