A peach of a small town

Trenton, South Carolina, is a peach of a small town. Home of the Ridge Peach Festival, every June for more than 50 years, the 350 residents here have hosted thousands of visitors to celebrate their peach industry with a parade, antique car and tractor show, live music, peach-themed desserts and, of course, peaches. “Trenton is known for its peach festival. It’s a lot of fun. Everyone loves fresh fruit and getting together,” says Erica Barton, a Realtor with Meybohm Real Estate, who has been selling homes in the area for more than 10 years. “The great thing about Trenton is that it has a country setting but it’s not too far from town. It’s the best of both worlds. Aiken is within 15 miles of Trenton. There are lots of job opportunities at the industrial plants. The Savannah River Site is a major employer. Trenton is in no way isolated.”

Century-old homes and new builds

Homebuyers considering Trenton will discover homes built from the late 1800s to the present day. They come in a range of styles, including Victorians with ornate trim, clapboard cottages with airy front porches and contemporary homes with two-car garages. Properties typically rest on spacious lots of more than a quarter-acre. Older homes are commonly shadowed by mature oak trees, while new builds feature walkable, sidewalk-lined streets.

Homes here list from $100,000 to $650,000. A two-bedroom, two-bath on a quarter-acre could be found in the mid-$100,000s, while a more spacious three-bedroom, two-bath with an acre may run around $350,000. “Homes are staying on the market a little longer than they used to. On average they’re sitting for 30 to 60 days before they sell,” Barton says. “We are seeing the interest rates drop, so things will pick up soon.”

Roadside stands and Main Street favorites

Trenton is a tiny town and there’s little in the way of retail beyond a Dollar General, on Pine House Road, and Sarah’s Fresh Market, a cherished roadside stand on Edgefield Road, that sells the likes of chow chow, boiled peanuts and peach ice cream that locals rave about.
For grocery shopping and dining out, residents can head to Edgefield, which is 7 miles away via Augusta Road. The town hosts regionally and nationally known chains, such as KJ’s Market and Subway on Carolina Square. For dining out, Mario’s, on Main Street in Edgefield, is a local favorite for brick oven pizza and live music.

A 25-mile commute to Augusta

At Bettis Academy Park, on Nicholson Road, residents can shoot some hoops, go for a jog along the mile-long paved trail or watch their kids tire themselves out on the playground.
