Quiet subdivisions close to downtown Troutdale and Gresham
Though it may feel like a quiet residential area, the Sunrise neighborhood is only a few miles from the downtowns of both Troutdale and Gresham and 18 miles from Portland. “It feels like it’s a little far out, but it's just on the east edge of town and you're five minutes from everything,” says Leanne Gillies, a broker with Walczyk Associates Realty. “It’s close to downtown Troutdale, which has all the shopping and restaurants. If you like fishing or hiking, you're literally right next to the Sandy River, and the Columbia River Gorge for all the hiking.” Other amenities are even closer, like grocery stores and neighborhood parks.
Green lawns are common throughout the Sunrise neighborhood.

Gray ranch-style homes, colorful new traditional houses
Homes in Sunrise come in two predominant styles. Ranch-style homes in shades of gray from the 1970s are concentrated in the northern half of the neighborhood, and range between $460,000 and $500,000. The rest of the neighborhood is composed of similar New Traditional homes in a spectrum of colors. Most come with Craftsman details, including tapered front porch columns, exposed beams and braces, and tuck-under garages. Built throughout the 1990s and 2000s, newer homes in the neighborhood fetch between $460,000 and $600,000. Though many don’t belong to homeowners associations, those that do come with monthly fees between $60 and $70. Residential streets have regularly maintained sidewalks, and homes face each other at the end of cul-de-sacs.

Sunrise Park: the center of the neighborhood
Sunrise Park, both a central point for the neighborhood and its namesake, covers more than 15 acres of green space. A paved, half-mile trail leads to a 12-stop fitness course for those looking to diversify their workout, while an icy Mount Hood juts out in the distance. “When I used to live here, I loved walking it in the morning because it was so pretty,” says Shantal Reid, a leasing agent for the Mountain Meadows apartment complex. “It has a beautiful view of Mount Hood if it’s clear enough.” Park employees are developing a pollinator garden to attract monarch butterflies—an addition to the community garden already on the park grounds.
The Stuart Ridge Greenway winds through a wooded area between neighborhood cul-de-sacs, smattered with vibrant blooms in the springtime. Less than 2 miles from the neighborhood, Imagination Station, a sizeable playground in Columbia Park, has various themes and a mural of the Multnomah Falls that has been made into a climbing wall. The surrounding park has two baseball diamonds and an athletic field.
Sunrise City Park has lovely views of Mt. Hood.

Safeway, sports and Skyland Pub
Sunrise is surrounded by several stores and restaurants on its southern side. In the east, Skyland Pub offers classic American fare and entertainment, with four pool tables, six arcade games and an air hockey table. Sports play on TVs that line the walls, next to framed athletic jerseys. On the west side of the neighborhood, Pelines Tequila and Mezcal specializes in traditional Mexican cuisine, enjoyed in a cheerful, colorful interior with brick and mosaic tile accents. A Safeway is next door, while Mt. View Market is a smaller neighborhood grocer on the other side of the neighborhood.

Children in the northern part of the Sunrise neighborhood may attend Troutdale Elementary School, while those in the south are zoned for Sweetbriar Elementary School, both of which receive a C-plus grade from Niche. Students from both schools may then attend Walt Morey Middle School before concluding their secondary education at Reynolds High School, with both schools receiving C grades. High school students have several opportunities to earn early college credit: an offering of 10 Advanced Placement classes, dual-credit courses with Portland State University and a partnership with Mount Hood Community College, which is immediately south of the neighborhood.
