Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve is a 23-acre wetland surrounded by suburbs. The public green space has trails through forests and swamplands. A herd of goats can be seen throughout the grounds a few months each year. The animals, managed by the nonprofit Applied Ecology Project, act as a natural poison ivy control on the preserve. Nearby Montreal Park includes a playground and hiking trails; Tucker City Council recently purchased adjacent land to add to the green space. Shopping is concentrated to the southwest, along Lawrenceville Highway. Locals can find family-run storefronts like Kabul Market and Talar's Markt, in addition to a Publix Super Market at Shamrock Plaza. There are also casual dining options, such as Madras Mantra Decatur. The commercial corridor is also the site of the upcoming Lulah Hills development; the destination will contain stores, restaurants and multi-family homes. "The idea is that they want it to be similar to Avalon in Alpharetta, but for the Decatur area," Pruett says. "This will allow everyone in the Intown Atlanta market to have easy accessibility to a mixed-use development." More shops and restaurants await 5 miles away in downtown Decatur.
