Conveniently located Tucson barrio with a diverse community
Added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 2011, Barrio Santa Rosa is a culturally rich neighborhood conveniently located 2 miles south of downtown Tucson. “It’s very community-oriented. Everyone’s always out with their kids, walking their dogs. It’s been like this for generations,” says Ronnie Spece, Owner of At Home Desert Realty who’s lived near the area for a decade. He says the area houses a wide range of architecture, and there’s a melting pot of people who live here from families, retirees and young transients. Along with eating at authentic local eateries and shopping near 5 Points Intersection, residents here enjoy attending annual city events just a few blocks away.

Colorful bungalows and rowhouses in Barrio Santa Rosa
Even with a higher median housing price of $552,000 compared to nearby areas like Menlo Park and Barrow Hollywood, Spece says homebuyers come here for the varied, historical architecture. Early 20th-century Craftsman bungalows with colorful, stucco facades are spread throughout the neighborhood and priced between $350,000 and $500,000; many properties contain original architectural elements from the 1920s and several feature small cement porches and backyard verandas that lead out to rock-landscaped gardens.
Gathered in the northeast pocket, block-shaped Sonoran rowhouses and three-bedroom pueblos built in the late 1990s range between $600,000 and $850,000; these homes sit side-by-side along narrow, side streets and feature tiny brick entryways decorated with cacti. Spece says people from all over come out to this area to check out these historic properties. “You’ll hear German and French accents walking along our streets, taking pictures. It’s weird in a way but also really cool,” he says.
