Less than 10 miles from downtown Tucson, Colonia Del Valle’s subdivisions sit between national retailers in Park Place and restaurants along East 22nd Street. Though the proximity to the city remains an essential feature of the neighborhood, Tucson Mountain Park and Sabino Canyon are equally close, allowing residents to choose between the excitement of the city and the tranquility of the mountains at their leisure.
Homes in the neighborhood feature ranch-style architecture, primarily with brick exteriors or stucco finishes. While some homeowner associations have monthly costs, they are less frequent in Colonia Del Valle. Most students begin at Annie Kellond Elementary, a B-graded school within walking distance, and transition to Alice Vail Middle, a B-minus-graded school. For high school, students attend Rincon, a C-graded school with Career and Technical Education courses for film, automotive technology and photography.
Loma Verde boasts the largest park in the community, its 10-acre grounds complete with a disc golf course, playground and open green space. Other parks include Mesa Village and Wilshire Heights, both of which are about 3 acres in size and have a playground, picnic tables and open field space. For golf lovers, the Randolph Dell Ulrich Golf Course sits 3 miles west of the neighborhood, right alongside the Red Park Zoo, and features an 18-hole course with shady trees along its fairways. If the weather is too warm for outdoor adventures, residents can keep moving at LA Fitness, located within the same parking lot as Park Place.
Because the neighborhood is part of Tucson, locals can take advantage of events the city hosts, like the Agave Heritage Festival, Rodeo Parade and Folk Festival. As for activities within the community, the Loma Verde Disc Golf Course often hosts the Tucson Discraft Ace Race.
Because the neighborhood includes Park Place, there’s no shortage of shopping opportunities close to home. Locals can walk to national retailers like Vans, Torrid, Finish Line and Old Navy within a mile—and residents of the Hervey Addition subdivision can reach the mall in a block or two. One of the nearest options for groceries is the Walmart Neighborhood Market, located within County Fair Shopping Center off East 22nd Street, but other grocers within a 3-mile radius include Trader Joe’s and Fry’s. When dining out, Colonia Del Valle residents enjoy classic diner food at Gus Balon’s Restaurant and Mexican seafood cuisine at Mariscos Mi Mazatlán. For quick eats on the go, spots like Jack in the Box and Taco Bell provide fast food options within walking distance.
For access to downtown, the 8 bus connects right to top attractions and employers in the area, with several stops located along East Broadway Boulevard. If driving, East 22nd Street connects to Route 210, as does East Broadway Boulevard.
For medical care, St. Joseph’s Hospital is located less than 2 miles north, ensuring emergency services and outpatient care are a quick drive away. For furry family members, the ABC Pet Care Clinic is a mile west, bringing care close to home for dogs and cats as well.
