Like its Eastside neighbor to the north, Harrison South-East feels remote but isn’t. Bounded by East 22nd Street to the north, South Houghton Road to the east, East Golf Links Road to the south and South Harrison Street to the west, this community of multiple subdivisions is squarely located between major thoroughfares that cut through sparse, expansive desert but lead to shopping, dining and recreation. Perpendicular streets open into attractive enclaves of well-kept homes with tidy landscaping and spectacular views of the Rincon Mountains from every window. Homeowners who want to keep the city at a distance can do so, comfortably, here.
While few homes look the same, most are 1970s slump block or 1980s stucco with modern updates. A townhome in the Village Green community includes the use of a pool, rec room and tennis courts, supported by HOA dues. Whatever your address, desert landscaping – think rocks, cacti, small trees – is common, though residents express personality with clustered plantings and bold paint. Slump-block homes come with carports and room for RVs, while newer construction favors multicar garages. However, the expansive network of sidewalks and dedicated bike trails throughout Harrison East-South might tempt you to leave your car at home.

Prices in the neighborhood run from $265,000 to $570,000, averaging in the low $300s for a three-bedroom single-family home with 1,800 square feet, and $265,000 for a 1,300-square-foot townhome.
Among the nearby schools, Dunham Elementary is a standout for academics and is highly rated by greatschools.org. Dunham emphasizes writing and encourages its Panthers to play a musical instrument. Students also get their hands dirty tending to a flower and vegetable garden. Because of its central location, Dunham is an easy walk for many residents.
Shopping and dining options are just up the street when you live in Harrison East South. The intersection of South Harrison and East 22nd is a top retail destination serving southeast Tucson. Get a new outfit at Ross or doggy treats at Petco, two of the anchors at Old Spanish Trail Marketplace. Check off your grocery list at Fry’s or grab a latte at Starbucks. For date night, family night or any night when you’re hungry for Mexican, the no-frills Los Nopales has you covered with chimichangas and fish tacos. When you're craving Chinese food, Golden House has more than 100 menu items and can accommodate specific dietary needs. When only pizza or pasta will do, locals count Giuseppe’s rustic Italian fare among their favorites.
For an outdoor adventure, head two miles east to the Rincon Mountains, where hiking and biking trails beckon. Or drive a mile north to Case Natural Resource Park, beloved for its unspoiled landscape and blissful quiet. Watch for roadrunners dashing across your footpath and listen for the whiz of Anna’s hummingbirds. In this 53-acre oasis, you can connect with nature at every step.
