Suburban Neighborhood in Tucson, Arizona

Dusty hues and native plants
From apartments to townhomes to single-family homes, the desert motif is strong in Limberlost, where Pueblo and Mission revival ramblers feature alongside midcentury modern homes, all in the distinct red and orange hues of the American Southwest. Even the apartments and townhomes of the neighborhood retain this look, providing for uniformity while retaining character. Native plant life features heavily in gardens, while lawns are often sand and gravel, doubling as off-street parking. With a median price in the neighborhood hovering around $300,000, most single-family homes are found in the range of $175,000 to $350,000, with homes featuring three or more bedrooms or comprehensive renovations fetching over $400,000. The amount of space dedicated to apartments and retail means that there is a limited supply of housing, so units sell faster than average.Amphitheater Public Schools serving Limberlost
While Limberlost is in Tucson, it’s served by the Amphitheater Public Schools. Helen Keeling and E.C. Nash Elementary school serve the neighborhood, both of which receive a grade of C from Niche. Nearby charter schools include the Academy of Math & Science and the Satori School, while Salpointe Catholic High School is a parochial option.National brands on the doorstep of Limberlost
Surrounded by shopping options, residents of Limberlost have everything they need, within walking distance for many. To the west, the sprawling Tucson Mall packs together national retail and dining such as The Cheesecake Factor, Sephora, H&M and many others. Meanwhile the crossroads of Oracle Road and Limberlost Drive have everything from Lowe’s and The Home Depot for home improvement needs, to Target for groceries and general needs. Similarly, to the northeast Wal-Mart tackles everyday needs while Sprouts Farms Market offers a selection of natural and organic produce. Both spots feature an endless supply of local and national chains – which limits local offerings to mainly food trucks and pop-ups like Red Captain Coffee, a specialty coffee trailer parked by Hem and Her Bridal shop.Fast transit and bikeable streets
Featuring wide shoulders along even streets, the Limberlost neighborhood is great to get around on a bicycle, and sidewalks stretch the entire distance of main drag. Coupled with the small size of Limberlost and comprehensive public transit, residents find themselves able to get around the neighborhood and even to downtown Tucson without having to hop in a car. Offering emergency care and other medical services, Banner – University Medical Center Tucson is only 5 miles from the center of Limberlost. Reachable by public transport or by car, Tucson International Airport is 14 miles south and offers regional and national flights.A memorable mural
“Along Stone Avenue a 600-foot-long mural dedicated to the history and beauty of the neighborhood was completed in 1999 and won Tucson’s ‘Best Mural’ award in early 2000,” Pacheco mentions. This mural, titled “The River Returns, Regenerates, Restores,” is reflective of the nearby Rillito River, and portrays scenes of life in Tucson along the banks of the Rillito. Specific scenes and touchpoints were driven by the residents themselves, to reflect how they see the neighborhood. Restored in 2021, the neighborhood comes together to keep it clean and well-maintained.Mesquite-shaded playgrounds and paths
Limberlost Family Park is in the heart of the neighborhood, a six-acre park. “It has a walking path, playground and basketball court, and plenty of shade,” points out Pacheco. This shade comes thanks to the remnants of the lush mesquite forest that used to blanket the neighborhood, with a few Cyprus trees mixed in. Local birders know the park as a hotspot for warblers, doves and hawks. Residents looking to get in some time in nature may head up to Pima Canyon, Mount Kimball and the rest of the Santa Catalina mountain range, only 6 miles north of Limberlost.
