Midcentury ranch homes spread throughout gridded streets

Gathered near the eastern border, four-bedroom ranch-style houses built in the ‘60s are typically priced from $450,000 to $650,000 and include white and beige adobe exteriors fixed with tile house numbers, metal yard art and fenced-in yards with in-ground pools. Homes here sit side by side on gridded streets lined with mature palm trees and cacti that lead to nearby Tucson True Light Church on the north side and Congregation Chaverim on the east.Visiting art booths at the Fourth Avenue Street Fair
Along with attending the annual neighborhood association meeting in October, residents visit over 300 different arts and crafts booths and dozens of food vendors at the popular, long-running Fourth Avenue Street Fair every March and December in downtown Tucson. The 41-year-old El Tour de Tucson is one of the city’s largest road cycling events where locals can opt for 102, 63 or 32-mile routes through Davis Monthan Air Force Base and the mountainous Saguaro National Park.Mexican dishes at La Parrilla and dessert at The Korean Rose

People can pick up groceries at Trader Joe’s across the street from Monterey Village and check out retail chains like Old Navy and Forever 21 at Park Place Mall a mile south of the community.Community gardens at Highland Vista Park and shooting hoops at Harold Bell
Folks can plant and pick herbs at the community garden at the three-acre Highland Vista Park a mile south of the neighborhood, which also features a covered playground and multi-purpose field. Further east, Harold Bell Wright Park offers a basketball court and open space shaded by towering pine trees. Beard says residents trek 5 miles west to the popular 131-acre Reid Park for paved bike trails, pottery classes and open swim times at the Edith Ball Adaptive Recreation Center and a tee time at the 18-hole Randolph Dell Urich Golf Course adjacent to the park. In the southwestern pocket of the area, Reid Park Zoo offers North American, African and Asian animal exhibits, and locals interested in animal conservation can volunteer here.Easy access to Interstate 10
Speedway Boulevard, located on Mitman’s northern border, can be used to access Interstate 10 about 7 miles west, and East 5th Street on the southern border is a main thoroughfare to both downtown Tucson and the University of Arizona about 7 miles away. Tucson Sun Tran buses regularly stop near the western border of the area, and residents can hop on the six-mile 3rd Street-University Bicycle Boulevard, which cuts through the community past multiple parks and schools.
