Quiet city suburb close to popular shopping and dining
Located 7 miles east of downtown Tucson, the quiet suburb of Mitman offers convenience to city shopping, walking distance to churches and synagogues and a more active neighborhood association compared to years past. “It’s renewed itself,” says Jennifer Beard, neighborhood advisor for Mitman Neighborhood Association and resident of 27 years. “More young people have moved in, and they want a thriving neighborhood.” Through partnerships with the city, Beard says residents have installed speed bumps and traffic circles to reduce speeding, as well as more HAWK lights at mid-block crosswalks, to make it safer for bikers and pedestrians to cross car-heavy intersections. Along with attending annual meetings and hanging out at nearby parks, folks here enjoy strolling the wide asphalt streets, admiring the distant views of the Santa Catalina foothills.
